Hejsaid he believes we are “jeopardizing the whole agri business of the state” because we are not graduating enough good young men with agricul tural backgrounds. With all the recent publicity on fewer farms and smaller farm pop ulations, young men on farms are turning to other fields of study. Turning to other uses of farm lands, Secretary Bull said, “Something is wrong when two or tljree business men can buy a farm, turn it into a pitch and putt golf -course, ski lodge or fee-fish ing ponds and borrow three times as much money on it as a farmer can borrow on the same farm.” If a farmer turns his farm to that kind of use, he asked, is he still a farmer? He pointed to the high cap ital investment needed in to day’s agriculture. "If we take the total farm investment and multiply it by six per cent we ATTENTION Farmers and Poultrymen We are the largest suppliers of Wood Shavings in the East for Poultry Litter and Cattle Bedding packaged in bales, burlap and paper hags. Bull called for more re search in marketing to keep our foreign markets and com - pete with foreign products coming into the United States. "Europe is looking at Ameri can. Markets. They are up grading their sanitary stan dards and will be competing with locally produced food pi oducts We are going to have to market our products out of the country, and we must do more research to keep our markets ” He said his department re centy learned that a majority of the institutions in the state use frozen eggs put up in 10 pound bags, but one processor in the state puts up such a product. Several processois are now looking at the possi bility of marketing such a package. He called on the Young Farmers to encourage such re search to boast the sale of Pennsylvania products.
