Ariano opened this past summer in Media, Pennsylvania, and as soon as you walk in, you feel like you are going to have dinner with your family. The staff is so welcoming and friendly, which makes you feel right at home. My friend and I have been going here since it opened and keep going back. It’s that good. delicious dessert menu that follows the meal. Since my friend and I have been to Ariano before, we knew that the best option for the two of us would be to split a salad and a pizza. We split the Via Otaggio salad and a Melani pizza. The salad was simple and scrumptious, and the Melani pizza had a spicy tomato sauce topped with artichoke, baby spin- ach, roasted peppers, and fontina cheese. Even with First off, when you walk in you can’t help but notice how beautiful the restaurant is. The décor fits so well with the atmosphere and gives you the feeling that you are in a real Italian restaurant. My friend and I sat in the upper level of the restaurant where there is a little balcony that overlooks Media. It is absolutely gorgeous and especially nice during spring and summer. Looking up at the ceiling, you will find a beautifully painted mural that you will not be able to keep your eyes off of. While you are waiting on your food, you will still be occupied just talking about the beauty of the restaurant. Let’s get right into the food. Every day there is a special menu with dishes to choose from, and a nice selection of appetizers, salads, and pizza. The selection of pizza is so great that it ranges from vegetarian to meat lover! The price range is also reasonable. Pizza, at lunchtime, ranges from six to ten dollars, and at dinnertime, from around ten to twenty dollars. If that isn’t enough, there is also a you too! all that, we were still not finished, in order to save room for dessert! It took us a bit of time to choose the dessert because everything sounded so good! I ended up choosing a Vanilla Hazelnut Crunch gelato, which tasted even better than it sounds, if that is even possible. They have a nice selection of gelatos along with special flavors of the day. Aside from ge- latos, they have other desserts as well. For-example, the Nutella pizza. If you are not in the mood for something cold, do not worry there is a dessert for Everyone should go and check out Ariano when they get a chance. If you are a pizza lover, this is perfect for you. There are so many options; you could change things up and find a new favorite every time you go. The atmosphere is laid back, but it also works for a fancy get together as well. Each time I go to Ariano, I just love it even more with its Great staff, great décor, and of course great food! What more can you ask for? Zac Brown Band Takes Down the BJC By Kelly McClain-- Lions Eye Staff Writer--KXM5293@psu.edu Homecoming weekend started off with a bang, as country superstar Zac Brown Band took the stage at the Bryce Jordan Cen- fer on Friday night. A packed crowd came to party and enjoy some breat music with the Zac Brown Band. Opening up for them were two up and coming artists, Nic Cowan and Sonia Leigh. Nic Cowan was first to come on stage, and although most people attending the concert initially did not know of him, they knew him well by the end of the night. He did about five of his songs and Rot the crowd moving. Cowan has another album coming out this winter and has one in stores now called “Hard Headed”. Next up was Sonia Leigh, who happens to have a record deal with Zac Brown Band’s record label called Southern Ground. Sonia Leigh came out on stage and had a decent amount of fans. Leigh played about six songs and had the crowd singing along and having a great time. Zac Brown Band played a Philadelphie: sombie Capilcl of the US? By Dave Hoffer--Lions Eye Sports Editor--DEH5081@psu.edu With the rise of the living undead movies and video games in the past 10 years, zom- bie fans and enthusiasts have banded together all over the world to celebrate the zombie culture. Donning tattered clothes, spewing blood and fighting the hunger of brains, zombie fanatics may find the City of Brotherly Love to be the perfect place to gather year after year to relish the life of a zombie. “Who wouldn’t want to be a zombie?” says zombie fanatic Korra Keenan. “This is such a cool experience and a great way to dress up, get creative and have a great time.” Thanks in large part to popular movies such as Zom- bieland, 28 Days/Weeks Later and the Resident Evil franchise, zombies have been a staple of pop culture throughout the early 21st century. In Philadelphia, there is an ever growing group that celebrates the lifestyle on an annual basis. The celebrations include a zombie bar crawl, held every Easter Sunday along South Street, a zombie beach party, held in Chinatown every summer, and a zombie prom held in the fall at the Trocadero Theater. These events are spear- headed by local Philly DJ Robert Drake, who for over two decades has promoted creative events around the city. “I love rocking the boat and being creative and allowing people to explore their own creative side,” says Drake. “Zombies are just a step away from human beings — they are the ‘monster’ that we all can identify with. Additionally, in this day of multi-tasking and working 15 hours a day to make ends meet — we all know what it’s like to be a zombie.” The whole idea stemmed from a zombie themed party held at Tattooed Mom Bar/Restaurant on South Street. From there, the bar crawl along South Street began in 2006 on Easter Sunday in order “celebrate the world’s most famous zombie.” Every year the crawl gains more and more notoriety and participants. The most recent event was the Zombie Prom which rocked the Trocadero back on September 24th. The over 21 year old event celebrated its Sth anniversary with professional makeup artists, per- formances from live bands, and a visit from DJ Drake himself. “This is a thousand times better than my prom,” spoke zombie en- thusiast Kristina DiMattia. “There bE (RW PIGSENS.. They also played their classic songs such as “Toes,” “Free” and the best of all ,“Chicken Fried.” Zac Brown Band also sang “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by the Charlie Daniels Band and “God Bless America.” They did not stop until about eleven thirty, and it was pure electric- is something to be said about dancing with your prom date while you are covered in blood and guts,” laughed Kristina. ity throughout the entire concert. Even if you are not a country music fan, the Zac Brown and is amazing; their concerts are filled with so much energy and love. If you do go to one of their concerts, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much fun you will have. Everyone has begun to take notice of Philadelphia and DJ Drakes creations. Nearly all of his zombie-themed events have been a featured news story within the Philadelphia media. Making the prom more special this year was the visitation of the Travel Channel, which will produce a documentary piece on the event. Cameras recorded the entire night while staffers interviewed the at- tendees all of whom were dressed in the finest attire. “Yes, I was interviewed by the producers,” said Kristina DiMattia. “They were very cor- dial and seemed to be fascinated with the entire atmosphere.” “I told them I am already looking forward to both the crawl and the beach party next year and encour- aged them to bring their cameras.” PAOLO’S PLAYLIST Halloween Theme Songs 5 Welcome to My Nightmare- Alice Cooper Zz (Don't Fear) The Reaper '- Blue Oyster Cult Cry Little Sister- Gerard McMann Ghostbusters Ray Parker Jr. Monster Mash Bobby (Boris) Pickett Dragula- Rob Zombie Time Warp*- Richard O'Brien Thriller- Michael Jackson This Is Halloween'-Danny Elfman 0.
