SSS REE BE ERR ALBUM REVIEW: LIL" WAYNE By Nick Alejandro--Lions Eye Staff Writer--NTA5029@psu.edu Al i WAYNE iE THA CARTER IV Dwayne Mi- chael Carter, Jr., better known as Lil Wayne, had his latest album, “Tha Carter IV”, released on Au- gust 29th. It sold & 964,000 copies in £3 < the U.S. its first week out. He was very close to making history as the first rap act to open with back-to-back million-selling albums. His previous, more successful album, Tha Carter III, was released in 2008 and sold over 1 million copies in the U.S. its first week of release. It included the number-one single "Lollipop" and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2008. “Tha Carter IV” is a marked improvement from "Rebirth" and "I Am Not A Human Being," but Wayne has and hopefully still can do much better. The biggest song on the album, “Outro” features Bun B., Nas, Shyne, and Busta Rhymes spitting some of the craziest punch lines we have heard. Everyone else on that track are well known rappers, and it was a masterpiece to put all of them into one track and the end of the album. Another popular song, “How To Love,” is about a young woman’s search to find true love after enduring a lifetime of pain and hardships. He ditches rapping for this one song and sings R&B for all of his fans. At twenty nine years old, he still breaks sale records from time to time. Others rappers have to follow his pace i! because he is in his world right now. He has set the bar really high for other incoming rappers wanting to as famous as him. He has been listed in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records. for the record of most US Hot 100 Hits by a Rap Artist with 64 hits between 1999 and YYYVYYey yyw rh a ih a and ithe Lion! Lit glciaizlo ele 4 It has been a few weeks now that the fall shows have begun. Every fall, major networks introduce new shows in hopes for some success. However, within the first few weeks some get weeded out and the best EF survive. Every once in a while there are shows that end : 3 too soon, but that is just how the game goes. There were Fos quite a few brand new shows released this season with very high hopes. The weeding has begun and some has oF beaten the odds. ! Just as they started they were gone. The highly con- <4 troversial Playboy Club on NBC was the first of the a freshman series to be given the axe. Playboy Club was only able to air three episodes before they were pulled. The next to go was yet another show from NBC. Free <4 Agents a comedy by Hank Azaria was supposed to go oH for a season but due to ratings was not able to go on. bl : How to be a Gentleman seemed to be on the rocks when CBS said they were going to move the new comedy to Saturdays. Which is pretty much a cancellation on its own, but just a day after they made the move they of- ficially announced the cancellation. The latest cancel- lation was the highly anticipated reboot of Charlie’s Angels. For months they had been campaigning for the show and still were not able to draw in an audience. ABC stopped the production of the show, but it will. finish airing the remaining episodes that were already & filmed.. Many new comedies got early full season pick-ups. They include CBS’s 2 Broke Girls, § ABC's Suburgatory, Fox’s New Girl, and NBC’s Whit- § ney and Up All Night. Along’ 2 with these comedies the CW picked up all of their new | series, which include Hart of Dixie, Ringer and The Secret Circle. ABC has also given the green light for the rest of Revenge’s season, which has been getting great reviews. Fox’s Terra Nova will definitely air all the episodes that have been created, a short first season, however, it has not been decided if the will continue afterwards. Also, Prime Suspect on NBC has ordered extra six episodes, but that does not mean they are in the clear. There are still a few shows left where the future is still a toss. Some have better odds than others. Tim Allen’s return to television Last Man Standing on ABC has been long awaited, but it will be a few weeks before we get an answer about this show’s fate. ABC has also not come to a decision on Pan Am because despite hopes, the ratings have been steadily decreasing. Under the radar, Unforgettable has been doing much better than expected over at CBS. Plus, CBS still has to decide if they are going to keep Person of Interest and A Gifted Man. Both shows fit the line up with the stations other shows, however there is always more to consider. In the past couple months alone there have been quite a few new shows that rolled out. Even at that, there are still more to come for mid-season replace- ments and others that are just starting a bit later than others. Look out for Once Upon a Time, Grimm, and Allen Gregory, among others. These shows have to have great actors, writing, and ratings to pull through. With so many shows competing against each other it only makes sense that the strongest survive.
