Things that would have never been accepted S years ago are everyday oc- currences now. This article is a shout- out to all students, and maybe some staff. We need to re-learn respect, gratitude, and etiquette. It is sad to see a generation with so much at its fingers roll on without basic mor- als. These morals are also things that employers look for when hiring new staff. So pay special attention. Your teachers and the PSU staff are higher on the totem pole than you are. Show them the respect that they have earned through many years of schooling. Address them in the same manner you would anyone else in a superior position. Don’t talk non-stop through their class or Face- book or Tweet via your phone; you disrespect the teacher and your fellow classmates. Any conversation that needs to take place can happen while you walk into or out of class. There is no need to talk loudly, or even scream, as I have witnessed. Teach- ots, staff and security are all here for your benefit. They love the world of academia, and will have no problem helping you. All you have to do is ask. ; Send your questions, comments, letters, and more to... By Matt Rodgers-Lion's Eye Staff Writer-MMR187@psu.edu in any class. When you are walking through the halls and doors of the buildings, there is no reason to scream down the hall at a friend. Not all classrooms are on the same sched- ule as you are, and people are in the middle of learning. During your days on campus, try holding the door for the person behind you, regardless of your gender. These things go a long way. Especially if you are seen doing it more than once. While in line for your food, or even in line at a store, you should not be talking on your cell phone. That is a slap in the face to any cashier. With the economy in the dumps, you may be that cashier some day. I am a generation before most students on this campus, and I will unequivocally say that respect makes the world go around. I see less and less humanity from the students on campus. You do not own this cam- pus, and as popular as you may think you are, there are definitely people that think you are disrespectful, inappropriate, and immature. Listen to your parents. My route through college was a long and tumultuous one. I always think to myself “man, I wish I would have listened to them” or “If I only would have...” As much as you may hate to listen to your parents, they are usually right. They have lived it, and know what they are talking about. RESPECT everyone; nobody is better than anyone else.
