The Rocky Horror Picture Show of course. In 1975 with the release of this controversial movie, culture would be altered forever. This movie is full of aliens(the lead played by Tim Curry), corruptible innocents(Susan Sarandon as Janet and Barry Bostwick as Brad), and fa- mous singers(Meatloaf) that flaunt their sexuality in compromising situ- ations. Although the 90’s embrace these racy components into its cul- ture, at the time the theatres opened with this box office hit, parents were shocked and kids were inspired to display their innermost desires and “The flamboyant roles and audacious text within this movie are symbolic of the rebellion or freedom within every era’s youth.” individuality. The flamboyant roles and audacious text within this movie are symbolic of the rebellion or free- dom within every era’s youth. This movie would provoke a following all its own. After paying the mere $3 entrance fee, the crowd makes its way to the movie room. A cast member runs about selling prop bags for a dollar which are mandatory for your complete viewing pleasure. As the movie plays, key words are used to signify when to use these props. For in- stance, you would throw your piece of toast at the sound of “A Toast...” and a roll of toilet paper when “Great Scott!” is heard. This is an example of the interactive viewing that takes place. Before the movie, a game is played to rile up the audience. A few “virgin” Rocky Horror watchers from the audience are selected to take part in various sexual “tortures.” Each selected victim spins a wheel and has to enact the torture accord- ing to the number they land on. Also, every new viewer must stand up and say a pledge of devotion to the show. At this point, the six rules for watch- ing “The Rocky horror Picture Show are stated. That, however, is not the only reason to buy this book. If you have ever felt ashamed of being afraid, this book is for you. De Becker shows that fear is not only necessary for survival, but is one of the best preventive weapons avail- able. He states that within our own minds are the best survival tools available almost anywhere. His company, Gavin De Becker, Inc. uses his system of recognizing signs and signals of danger for advising media figures, corporations, and law en- forcement agencies on how to pro- tect themselves from violent acts. De Becker, who grew up ina household where violence was com- monplace, learned that to predict vio- lence, one must recognize it not as inhuman, but rather “precisely hu- man.” To register someone as a threat, he writes, you must be able to recognize the traits of dangerous people. : In this immensely useful book, De Becker gives practical ad- vice on how to recognize and deal with a stalker, domestic abuser or would-be rapist. You will come away from this book with a renewed sense of confidence in yourself and your ability to stay safe without ex- pensive “protective” tools that often fail under real circumstances.
