PENNSTATE | Delaware County Vol. XXX, No. 5 Penn State University, Delaware County Campus November 18, 1998 Delco Says Goodbye to Two of Its Finest Raquel Arrendondo Leaves PSU for Cendent Position By Rob Coyle Editor-in-Chief On Thursday, Nov. 5%, Penn State Delco said goodbye to one of their own. That day was Raquel Arrendondo’s (SGA Advisor, Stu- dent Life Assistant Coordinator) last day here on campus. ~ Arrendondo left to become a training coordinator for the Mortgage Banking Services Department of the Cendent Corporation. The Cendent Corporation is one of the leading marketers and providers of consumer and business services, linking goods and services through direct market- ing, franchise partners, and business alliances in real estate, travel, alli- ance marketing, and high growth. In her role as a training coordinator, Arrendondo will run a series of ori- entation and training classes for all new financial service representa- tives, to better acclimate them to the company, the company culture, and some technical skills. In her three years at PSU Delco, Arrendondo played a crucial role in the growth of the campus. Barbara Daniel (Director of Student Life) explains. “Raquel was at our campus only three years, but she con- tributed a lot in that time. I think that’s because she took the ball and really ran with it when she got it - to use a football metaphor. As a result, she introduced a lot of new programs to the campus.” “She took her job seriously and worked hard - and expected the students to do that too, “ said Daniel. “T’11 miss her strong presence in Stu- dent Life...” “It will be very hard to re- place her. She was a huge asset to the campus community,” said Liz Mondi (SGA Vice-President), who along with the other SGA members and club presidents worked closely with Arrendondo on campus affairs. SGA President Marty Ranalli had this to say, “She really was a friend for everyone on SGA. She will be sorely missed, and I hope we can keep in touch...” Although sometimes very stressful, Arrendondo enjoyed her time here at PSU Delco. “I have had many wonderful opportunities the past three years to grow both profes- sionally and personally here at PSU. Not only have I learned a lot, but I’ve made some great friendships - fac- ulty, staff and students - that I am sure will continue through the years.” She went on to say that, “Overall, it had been a great experience.” The campus brass is dili- gently working towards finding a re- placement and a committee of stu- dents and faculty has been assembled to do this task. “...We’re working hard already to find someone to fill her position as soon as possible,” commented Daniel. Arrendondo sees this campus having a very bright future. “The Delaware County Campus has a lot of potential and is growing in so many ways. [I’m proud to say that I had a hand at making it a great insti- tution.” SER Security Guard Brian Finney Leaves for DEA By Aimee Stone Assistant Editor On Friday Nov. 23, Penn State Delco will say good-bye to one of its finest. Day shift security guard Brian Finney will be leaving Delco in pursuit of a long time dream; be- ginning November 23, he will be- come Special Agent Finney of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Finney achieved his Bach- elor of Science in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in Texas. From Texas Finney went to Pittsburgh and became a police officer in Ohio Township. After his wife became a U.S. Marshall, they moved to the Philadelphia area. “I have enjoyed my time here,” stated Finney, “...it. was a stepping stone, it’s time for me to move on.” After one week of straight paperwork, Finney will be shipped off to Quantico, VA for a four-month training period at the FBI Academy. After his training he will receive his new assignment of location. So far the campus has not found a replacement for Finney. Un- til one is found, John McKnight, the usual night security, will temporarily take over the day shift. The campus students will miss Finney unlocking their cars, helping to look for lost keys, and keeping the peace on the campus. “I don’t think anyone can do the job he did,” said Liz Mondi, SGA vice president. | We wish good luck to Finney on his new excursion and hope it works out well. We also hope that - McKnight is good at getting keys out of locked cars. What's Inside: Page 3 — New Clubs on Campus Page 4 — Student Editorials Page 5 — CD, Movie Reviews Page 7 — Male Cheerleaders?
