Group Help (Continued from page 5) Why have study groups to begin with? According to most students interviewed, those that studied together in past study groups performed better in their courses than those who studied alone. The question now is, how does a student start a study group? The answer is that anyone interested in starting a study group should see Mrs. Notzold, Mrs Manco, or Mrs. Ousey in the Learning Center, 109 Vairo Library for more information. 100 Books and Artwork on Display at PSU Delco By Ryan Boldosser Looking for something to do during that hour between classes? Come to the library here on Penn State’s Delaware County campus and check out the special displays and exhibits the library offers. During September 8-15 Penn State Delaware County embraced the artwork of Bangladesh. The exhibit featured the artwork of Khalid Mahmood Mithu showcasing his folk art, fine arts and ornaments of Bangladesh. Khalid Mahmood Mithu and his wife, having showcased their artwork here on campus twice before, were thanked and honored for their participation in the exhibit during a reception hosted by the Multicultural Club at Delco. As a result of the exhibit both students and faculty came away with a better understanding of the land and culture that make up the people of Bangladesh. The exhibit also contributed to Penn State’s success in establishing a permanent international relationship with a foreign country. By maintaining international contacts, Penn State can expand campus at Gu Creative Ways to Kill Time By Candice Meriano “What is there to do when you have some free time between classes?” Melissa Martin (sophomore) - “Work in the volunteer service center.” Len Damico (sophomore) - “Sleep, eat, do homework and bring myself a little closer to self-actualization.” Two Feature Films that Flopped at the Box Office By Rachael Fetterman The thrill is gone from the movies. Even some recent new releases lack a strong amount of excitement. Mimic, directed by Guillermo Del Toro, did not help end my recent boredom with movies. This film had bad effects and one of the worst endings I've ever seen: lame and cheesy. : The plot: husband and wife team of scientists take to the New York subway system to battle killer cockroaches that they originally created in a lab. This movie had maybe one or two interesting turns in it, but it was not short on the ooze factor! If you don’t like giant bugs, bug slime, or defective movies, get the Raid out for this flick. Another movie sure to be soon forgotten is Excess Baggage. In this film, directed by Marco Brambilla, Alicia Siverstone plays a spoiled teenager who fakes her own kidnapping to get the attention of her father. I thought the plot sounded interesting, but after sitting through 1 hour and 38 minutes of a good cast being wasted ona boring script and little action, I longed for the dumb blonde of Clueless. Again there are a few strange twists in the movie, but this little romantic comedy was just plain dull. Keith Sturges (junior) - “Basketball, e- mail, eat, study, and wander aimlessly around campus.” Johane Pierr (freshman) -“Call my fiance in Virginia.” Erika Almiron (senior) - “Work, work, and work. Oh, and did I mention that I work?” Sean Barr (sophomore) - “Study and relax.” Diana Grant (staff) - “I try to catch up onall the files wating to be processed.” Patricia Fleck (sophomore) - “Hang out in the cafeteria.” ; Shari Robbins (senior) - “Go to the mall, or hang out in the lounge and cafeteria.” Dana Casey (freshman) - “Hang out in the student lounge and do homework, study and conversate.” Tam Neyo ( freshman) - “Go to the student lounge and study.” Ty McGilberry (sophomore) - “I have enough time to run to a snack machine and go to the next class.” Linda Hayden (staff) - “I don’t have much time, but if I did, I would use it to catch up.” Kelly Taylor (sophomore) - “Hang out in the student lounge or go to the mall.” S. Jones (sophomore) - “Hang out in the student lounge or in the cafeteria.” Maurice Alvarado (sophomore) “Check my e-mail if I have time.” knowledge and broaden campus involvement with other diverse cultures. Throughout the Fall Semester an exhibit by Mr. Robert Ginsberg (Dr. Ginsberg prefers to be referred to as Mr.), entitled “The First Hundred Books”, will be displayed on the upper floor of the library. This exhibit is a collection of books for which Mr.Ginsberg served as general editor. All of the books involved in the exhibit are related to the study of philosophy inspired by Mr.Ginsberg’s work here on campus as a professor of philosophy. The collection of books represents 30 years of his professional work here at the University. Mr.Ginsberg hopes that the exhibit will serve as an expression of his gratitude to PSU for assisting and encouraging him in his work. Focusing on the importance of this exhibit Mr.Ginsberg said, “Editing is an art of being tough with texts and gentle with authors, so that readers everywhere are best served”. All library exhibits are free and open to the public. Album Review Rock n “Roll With the New” By Rob Coyle Chris Rock’s second comedic album, Roll With the New, has the SNL alumnus in the familiar role of political humorist. His quick wit and raunchy language are as easily recognizable as his trademark over pronunciations. Rock's skits combine hard truths about American society, with lighter looks on life that cover such topical issues as murder (O.].), platonic friends, record label wars, and crime and punishment (the Tossed-Salad Man). Roll With the New has live performances, situation comedies, and even a hit new song on regular rotation on MTV. The song , “Champagne,” parodies new rappers such as Missy Elliot and Sean “Puffy” Combs. Penn State freshman communications - student Vince Rementer recently saw the video and said “Chris Rock is crazy. His Puff Daddy imitation really cracks me up.” Chris Rock's comedy, however, is usually not for the faint of heart. The 32-year-old’s skits are almost always vulgar, riddled with profanity, and intended for mature audiences. That said, US magazine called Rock “the Wicked Wit of the East” in its October issue. With a new talk show on HBO, Li'l Penny commercials for Nike, and having just hosted the MTV Video Music Awards, Rock’s future is looking brighter than when he was known as “the other black man on Saturday Night Live,” as quoted in US. So even though this CD may not be the one the listen to on the family trip to the Jersey shore, it’s definitely worth buying and packs a good dose of reality. Roll With the New can be found at almost any music store. WF i } | | {
