Feick Legislative advocacy. It may be difficult to pronounce, but it is not difficult to do — especially when the legislators come right into your backyard. That will be the case on Friday morning, October 13, when eight state representatives and two state senators from local districts will visit the Delaware County campus. At 9:30 AM the state officials will meet with the unique Project Vision class and their professors to get a firsthand look at twenty-first century ‘higher education as it is already being experienced by a group of campus freshmen. The visitors will see how assignments, discussions, and research are all done electronically by students working with other students from Berks and Mont Alto campuses. The legislators will also learn about the typical week of a college professor, which includes a variety of challenging responsibilites in the areas of research, publication, service, "ACCESS Accounts Available By Bernie Mount Have you had your student ACCESS account activated yet? A student ACCESS account is an assigned user ID (also referred to as a “userid”) and password that enables Penn State students to use electronic mail and to access information services. Most students use their ACCESS accounts to e-mail other students at colleges across the state and country. However ACCESS accounts may also be used to access authorized private News groups. : It is recommended that students interested in activating their ACCESS accounts sign up for an ACCESS workshop. An ACCESS workshop is a 35-40 minute general session, taught curriculum development, and professional development, in addition to course preparation and teaching. Both technology and teaching are important issues currently facing legislators as they debate state funding for higher education. At 10:30 AM on October 13 the the visiting dignitaries will gather for refreshments in the Library Lounge and meet their constituents. Members of the campus community are invited to join with the legislators at this time and discuss issues of concern in higher education. Marianne Rhodes, Director of Public Relations, commented, “Students, faculty, and staff who live in the districts of the visiting legislators are especially urged to attend.” Ms. Rhodes said she expects the following legislators at the program: Senators Clarence Bell and Joseph Loeper and Representatives William Adolph, Kathrynann Durham, Robert Flick, Thomas Gannon, Thaddeus Kirkland, Nicholas Micozzie, Matthew Ryan, and Gregory Vitali. by Matt Bodek of Instructional Services, designed to explain the proper procedures for using your ACCESS account. Delco Bookstore and Lounge Gearing Up for Major Move By Janine Furillo The Penn State bookstore, now located in the Commons is planning - to move to the first floor of the main building. The transition will take place sometime in late October or early November. In response to a question about why the bookstore is moving, Marcus Parker, bookstore manager, said, “The University wants to give the space where the bookstore is now to the students.” The major benefits to this move will be a larger area for the new bookstore, and turning the old space into a student lounge. Many of the students will be happy to have another lounge they can go to. “I think it’s good because it gives students another place to go in between classes,” said Cherie Ernest, Communications. Bob Bonnett, Liberal Arts, also agrees, “it will give students more room to hang out with friends.” Marcus Parker had a number of reminders for students. First, the bookstore sells sodas, magazines, and The Philadelphia Inquirer, as well as text books and Penn State items. The refund policy has changed. Students now have thirty days from the beginning of classes to return their books. Marcus Parker also would like to remind all students to sell their books back at the end of the semester. The bookstore staff wants to welcome all freshmen and returning students to Penn State. It will look like a new student lounge, but it will still smell like overpriced books. in 101 Main. Attention!
