April 1,1995 — LION’SEYE — Page 7 Action, Events At Carter Games By Kewana Walker The fourth annual “Marcel Carter” tournament is being held on April 21 in the school gym. The game starts at 3:30pm and everyone is welcome to attend. The tournamentis sponsored by the Black Student League (BSL). Who is eligable to play ? Anyone who attends or attended Penn State. Also, Glenn Mills/ Communnity Center in Chester and the Franklin Mint Players will participate. In addition there will be a co-ed faculty vs. students game. The BSL is looking for support from such colleges as Cheyney, Neumann, DCCC, Widener, West Chester, and Penn State Ogontz campus. They will be having two bake sales to pay for the tee-shirts for the game. They also will be getting in touch with radio personalities and publications through the business office. For those of you who don’t know who Marcel Carter was, he was a student at Penn State Delaware County until 1992 and played on the basketball team. “Marcel was fun, caring, cheerful, and loving. He was a friend to all who knew him and he loved basketball,” said Nikitra Bailey. Marcel Carter died in 1993. The annual game is held in memory of him. For this reason, all profits from the game will go to three cancer foundations across the Delaware Valley. : Students were asked about the idea behind the "Marcel Carter tournament.” One student felt that it was "very important because it not only supports the cancer foundations, but it also gives students a chance to participate in celebration of a former student, Marcel Carter." There will also be a "skills competition” in addition to the actual game. The competition will consist of a slam dunk contest and a three point shooting contest. Prizes have not yet been announced, but it will be a great opportunity to come out and show everybody what kind of skills you have.
