Be A Child Once More | the two latest movies, The Santa Clause and Miracle On 34th Street. The Santa Clause is a movie about Santa Claus , of course. Tim Allen from the popular show Home Improvement portrays a toy executive whose wife turns him into a Scrooge as far as his son is concerned. He surprises an intruder and accidentaly kills him, then finds out it was the real Santa Claus he just killed. He finds a card in Sania's suit, which says that if anyone puts the suit on, then they will become St. Nick, whether they want it ornot. So he puts the suit on and soon gets lifted off th the North Pole. He gains weight, his personality changes, and he gets St. Nick's power. John Huges' updated version of Miracle on 34th Street, an Oscar winning classic originally done by Edmond Gwen in 1947, is a joy to see. The story takes place at Coal's Department Store, which in reality is Macys. A department store Santa Claus claims he is the real Santa Claus, Chris Kringle. He is then put on trial for his insane claim. Also, in this movie is a little girl named Susan, who has lost her faith and wants her mother, who is played by Elizabeth Perkins, to give her a father. Students should go see and enjoy these two movies. After all, no one is ever too old to believe. RIP ROADWAY ch S had. Mastricolo At the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Blues Traveler performed to a crowd of devoted followers on November 12. I attended the show with a Penn State alumnus who remembered their show in Happy ~ Valley two years ago as opening act of the Regatta. Blues Traveler were just as energetic as we both remembered them. This band is all music and little talk. ; Blues Traveler is a “college” band that has remained lodged underground during the alternative rage of recent years. BT is alternative, but not in the sense that brought Pearl Jam and Soundgarden into the limelight. BT’s alternative sound comes. from roots in jazz and blues. Harmonicas and heavy bass grooves punctuate their lyrics, which talk of real life. Their music is alive and vibrant. Nothing about them sounds pre-fabricated. The show was one that had everybody on their feet. No one could stand still during their numerous jams. No one seemed to mind that there was infinitely more music than lyrics throughout the whole show. People in the aisles were dancing like they were at a Dead show, while those on the floor alternated between dancing and being rivited toward the stage. This show was Blues Travelers’ promotion of their latest release, Four. Although most of the material is unreleased, the fans loved it. That's how BT's music has remained since they began, unreleased, and thereby, uncommercial. Anyone looking for something off the beaten path of Seattle grunge, will find Blues Traveler to be an enjoyable change. True Spirit of the Season (Continued from Page 4) brought two large sacks of toys and our very own Santa Claus. We watched their solemn faces turn around into beaming smiles. We saw them forget all of their worries and take joy in a very special time of year. A young seven year old boy with ripped jeans and a worn, red turtleneck walked up to me that day with a brand new action figure in his hand. His smile glowed and spread from ear to ar. “This is the best present I've ever gotten!” he exclaimed. I bent down to one knee as he wrapped his arms around me and squeezed. “Well, “ I answered, “Santa Claus really did all the work.” He stepped back and looked me in the eye. “But if you didn’t come to deliver the presents, we wouldn’t have gotten anything.” It was at that moment I realized what a profound difference we had made. Sure, it’s true that we can’t help everyone. But by making that one special difference in someone's life, we can put some love and joy back into their hearts. That love and compassion, . my friends, is something the Grinch will never be able to steal. So, students at Penn State Delco, take the time to make someone smile this Christmas. You'll be glad you did. Wes Tomlinson, Delco adult student, is presented the “Who' s Who in American Universities and Colleges’ Award by Dr. Mary Bell, the first won by a Penn State Delco student since 1991.
