— LION’SEYE — Fntert: Minnentss October 13, 1994 Old Tunes Make Amazing Comeback By Brett Jones So, you don’t think that there are any artists from the ‘60's still recording good music? Well, think again. Sleeps With Angels, the latest Neil Young record, will put that assumption to rest. Neil Yong just released this album in August and it includes his notorious back up band Crazy Horse. Sleeps With Angels is the perfect example of a record that includes every type of song you could possibly imagine from a guitar / harmonica / piano player. It opens up with a song titled “My Heart”, which just contains the soft spoken, smooth voice of Neil Young and the strokes of a piano in the background. Track number six is a flat out, fifteen minute jam that never lets up and does not in any way become boring. It is called “Change Your Mind”, and recently radio stations (DRE,WMMR) have been playing the edited version of this song on the air. If you need any reason at all to purchase this album, it would be to hear the uncut version of this fantastic anthem. Neil Young also gives us a history lesson on the track “Western Hero.” It is a laid back, folky, Bob Dylanish type song that tells the story of a Worl Sophomore Damien Lanza shows his excellent juggling skills during a break between classes. ’ Photo by: WES TOMLINSON | Movie Review By Nick Indeglio “The man who saves one life saves the world entire.” This is the underlying theme of Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List which was shown on 21, at Penn State Delco. Schindler's List is the true and powerful story of a self-made millionaire, Oscar Schindler. He makes his living as a factory owner who employs Jewish workers during the time of Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust. In return for their services, Schindler provides them with food, lodgings, and most importantly, safety. Throughout the course of the movie, Oscar Schindler befriends a Jewish business manager and begins to see the extent of the suffering for Jews in Nazi Germany. He decides to make a last ditch effort and save as many lives as possible. = Schindler's List utilizes all of Steven Spielberg's masterful movie making techniques and makes an The Dean's List Congratulations to all students who made the Dean's List for the Summer '94 semester. The actual song, - which includes a mix of heavy guitar and distorted vocals, reflects the song- writing style of Cobain. Young abruptly changed the title of the album over the summer as a tribute to the great song writer. It doesn’t matter whether or not you enjoy the punk rock, in-your-face style of Neil Young or if you are more into his acoustic guitar sound, you will enjoy this album. Any Neil Young fan would probably agree that this is one of his finer pieces of work. ~ Tour dates haven't been announce yet, but I'm sure it’s going to be an excellent show when Neil Young and Crazy Horse hit Philadelphia sometime in the near future. Using black and white film with limited color segments, Spielberg is able to demonstrate the unbelievable suffering of the Jewish people and appeal to the audience’s emotions. In one scene, Oscar Schindler stands on a balcony, watching thousands of Jews being marched to a concentration camp. With the innovative techniques used by Spielberg and the superb acting of Ralph Tiennes and Ben Kingsley, the audience forgets that the movie is well over three hours long. The film is so engulfing that the viewer isin enraptured in a timeless tunnel of suffering and death. The feelings experienced after the film's emotional climax are best described by Dan Dobson of King of Prussia, a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. “I left the room feeling severely drained. It was definitely an experience!” Hollywood Reality By Jennifer Holland “I feel the show is enjoyable to watch, but it is not like real life in However, it takes my mind off all my worries for an hour,” says Tina Cavalieri (Liberal Arts), when asked about one of the country’s most popular television shows, Beverly Hills, 90210. This show joined the majority of us in high school and is now continuing through college. It concerns a group of friends who face the same obstacles we do. The writers and producers of the show do an excellent job in trying to get their point across. So far this season, the show has concentrated on themes such as school leadership, alcohol, sex, relationships, death, married life, child birth, and drugs. Such themes give viewers an impression of what the show’s primary concern isabout: the life of adolescents living in America today. For example, actor Jason Priestly plays Brandon Walsh, a college student who was running for vice president of the student body, along with his friend Josh Richland (Joshua Beckett) who was running for president. The day of the election, Josh got killed in a car accident only minutes before the results were announced. As it turned out, Brandon and Josh did win the election. However, Brandon lost his strength to continue on without Josh beside him. He went through an extremely rough time as he dealt with the death of his friend. His girlfriend Kelly Taylor, played by actress Jennie Garth, convinced him to go on, because he wasn’t the one who died. There are two very important themes here: death and school leadership. These are two matters which have affected all of us here at Penn State at one point or another. The show tries to give the viewers insight on how to deal with such problems that we may feel we can’t handie. “I feel the show is interesting in the sense that it involves people are age. Some of the subjects you can relate to your own life, at least the problems, anyway,” says Brain Crockett (Elementary Education). In the eyes of most students, ~ Beverly Hills 90210, is an enjoyable show, though it may not always be 100% “real life”. ARR CT aed IT ERG
