Page 2 — LION'S EYE — December 11, 1992 Award. By Kaspar Stromme On Sunday November 8, at 7:30 in the morning, most Delco students were probably sleeping. One notable exception was the group of about one hundred students who were lined up outside the main building, waiting for the two coaches that were to take them to New York City. It was a cold morning, but there wasn’t a cloud in sight, and a promising day lay ahead. First stop would be the Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as the Met, followed by a stop in Chinatown and Little Italy. Many of the students who went are currently taking one of the art classes offered here on campus, and a variety of extra credit work was Jeanette Rieck, Delco s most recent recipient o ed Photo by: DIANA MICERI Delco Students Take Manhattan as hunger set in, they wandered to possible. For example, worksheets for the Oriental galleries could be used to substitute a test grade in that class. The trip was not restricted to art students however. There were students, parents, faculty and staff among the participants. One such person was Diana Miceri, who felt that “the trip definitely was worth it considering the price and all there is to do in NYC”. The buses arrived outside the Met around ten, and a horde of students stormed into the museum. Students were soon busy searching the Chinese section for kuangs and tings, while others found time to enjoy the special exhibition of French surrealist Rene Margritte. Award was recently given to Jeanette Rieck, Staff Assistant in the Academic Affairs Department. She received this award for a significant discovery. In this time of budget cuts and short- falls, she became aware of funds that needed to be used by June 30, 1992. These funds would have been lost forever if Ms. Rieck had not found them. With her find, the staff was able to carry the funds forward and purchase a computer. The Lion’s P.A.W. Award is gen to a PSU Delco faculty or staff (full- time or part time) in recognition for their “Outstanding Performance and Achievment in the the Met cafeteria. Shocked by the insane prices and the dismal selection, students took to the streets, where vendors offered dismal food at less insane prices. Personally, I preferred the local chapter of the Au Bon Pain, a pastry chain that offers brunch items at reasonable prices. No longer the starving, students continued to roam the streets, enjoying New York City landmarks like Central Park, F. A. Schwartz, St. Pat’s, and the Rockefeller Center. These sights are all located on Fifth Avenue within walking distance of the Met. An added bonus of this tour was that you get to window shop in every store on Fifth Avenue. After circling the Met for a couple of hours, the buses picked up part of the group and drove downtown. Some people chose to find their own way, but at 7:00, after dinner in either Chinatown or Little Italy, everybody gathered at the pick-up point and headed back to Lima. Carjacking Tips . . . (Continued from Page 1) * If a carjacker gets in your car, get out. Your risk of injury is higher if you let the carjacker inside of the car “and then stay with the carjacker. * If anything suspicious happens to you on the road 4 or in a parking lot, report it immediately to the police, “noting a description of the car, direction of travel and license plate number. Police also warn motorists to be aware of phony accidents. Carjackers are reportedly setting up mock accidents (usually by rear- ending the victim). If an accident happens be sure to get the make and license plate number of the car. Do not get out of the car until police arrive on the scene. Never give the stranger your address or telephone number. Report any suspicious encounters to the police - immediately. fairs at Delco Workplace.” The award consists of a check for $50.00, a framed certificate of recognition, and the Lion’s P.A.W. parking space in the Main front parking lot.
