Well, with notable exceptions, such as the Keystone Society’s Hurricane Aid and Lion Ambassadors’ Candy Cane-O-Grams there wasn’t too much going on in terms of organized out-of-class activities. This semester should be different, thanks to the re-emergence of the Student Activities Committee, or SAC for short. This was the entity who, in the past sponsored campus entertainment such as live bands, comedians, and more. Last fall, however, they went through some difficulties, including the loss of their advisor, and as a result they were unable to do much. This should soon change. We have to put the word Dr. Tomezsko Looks to Future By Caroline Kalafut Dr. Ed Tomezsko, CEO of the Penn State Delco Campus, held a staff meeting on Tuesday, January 26 to discuss a strategy for the future. His first concern was the issue of enrollment. The university has been in a six year decline in admissions. More qualified students are needed without lowering standards. Without more students, a plan to become an upper division campus cannot be implemented. Fewer students mean budget | problems. These are lean times for Penn State. A hiring freeze is on at present. There is one bit of good news: No satellite campus will be closed. The university has no plans for downsizing. Dr. Tomezsko said, out about our programs.” Temple University was mentioned as an example of advertising the benefits of a particular school of higher education. Another issue was the lack of road signs identifying the location of the campus. Signs are expensive, so that changing the present one at the main entrance is prohibitive. Perhaps when the new classroom building is constructed, there will be enough funds in the budget to cover new signs on 352 and at the entrance. Dr. Tomezsko was especially “concerned about the quality of life of the students, and then the quality of life of the faculty and staff. He wanted to know what the students felt was an ideal campus and how close this campus was to that ideal. This question relates to his wish for more input from students. He cannot plan ahcad without knowing how students feel about degree programs, classes, tuition, accessibility of facilities on campus and a host of other questions. One suggestion was to hold town meetings for students, faculty and staff, since the decisions that are made will affect everyone's future. InsideThis Issue .
