Photo by: MARY MATUS By Kaspar Stromme : The list of events remaining for the Cultures of Africa program gets smaller with every passing day, but there is still: much to experience before the program ends. Two field trips are planned: one to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Museum of Natural Art in New York on March 21; another to several locations in Washington, including the Campus Art Exhibit and Sale Benefits | Tim Mark Endowment Fund for Artists By Kemba Vick The Friends of the Tim Mark ‘Endowment sponsored the annual Art Exhibit and Sale March 6 through March 14. The featured works belonged to established greater Delaware Valley artists who donated a percentage or their sales to benefit the Tim Mark Endowment Fund. Seventy-four artists participated in Exhibit 1992. Unless specifically designated not for sale, all exhibited works were available for purchase. Prints and originals in artists’ portfolios were taken at the time of purchase. The primary purpose of the Tim Mark Endowment Fund is to support the annual juried selection of work by an emerging ‘artist to be exhibited on Penn State campuses for one year. He bacame associated with the Penn State Delware County Campus in November of 1989 while in the process of planning the premiere exhibit of his work at our campus. Prior to the exhibition, Tim had already donated two of his paintings to the University despite his losing battle with cancer. These exceptional pieces were rare bacause they were two of the fewer than twenty pieces completed before the disease made it impossible for him to paint. Cultures of Africa Program : ‘Continues Through April Smithsonian, on April 25. Both trips require advance registration. On-campus cinematic events include a feature-length film from South Africa on March 17 and several short films on March 26 and April 7. On April 21, a videotape of Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s 1989 visit to Penn State will be screened. All presentations are held in MN 101 at 11:30 and 1:00. Several lectures are scheduled. These include one on March 24, when visiting scholar John Murungi- about from Kenya will talk philosophy and religion, one April 3, when the politics and geopolitics of Africa will be discussed by a panel of experts, and one April 9, when visiting scholar Wabi Aboudou from Benin will reflect on language and culture. : On the lighter side, another children’s art workshop will be held on March 17, in LLC 112, at 4:00. We were mentally and physically pushed to the limit when it was over. We now have a true appreciation of the Airborne Infantry Ranger,” Reddi sighed with relief that it was over, but she was proud to have encountered such a weekend. The latest talk around the ROTC Kingston Trio Alumnus Presents ‘Elvis, Kennedy By Robin Longaker John Stewart, a member of the former Kingston Trio, will be appearing at the Penn State Delco Campus on Saturday, March 28. He will perform a concert and present an exhibit of his paintings entitled, “Elvis, Kennedy, and Naked Ladies: An American Show.” A reception will be held at 6:30 pm in the library, which will give guests the opportunity to meet with Stewart and preview his art exhibit. The concert will begin at 8:00 pm. John Stewart has written songs for The Monkees, Harry Belafonte, Eddie Arnold, and many other notable musicians. After leaving the Kingston Trio in 1967, Stewart began his solo career, and he eventually released 22 solo albums. Perhaps the most recognized song he wrote is & Naked Ladies’ “Daydream Believer.” In addition to his outstanding musical abilities, he is currently pursuing a career as an author and Stewart’s exhibit of paintings is scheduled to be on display in the library from Saturday, March 28, until Friday, April 10. The exhibit will include a. variety of works, featuring acrylics on canvas, acrylics on photo copies, and mixed as an artist. medias.
