The Lions won their fourth consecutive regular season, when they beat PSU Ogontz on February 11. They lost in the first round play-offs to PSU Hazelton, 71- 66. Their overall record for the season was seventeen wins and seven losses. Head coach Bill Wiley said the team was not up to par because of several injuries; “they [the team] were playing on guts.” The leading was Campus Gears Up For Spring Sports By Joe Damiani Spring is only a few days away. That means three campus sports are getting ready to begin their seasons. There is a feeling among many of the coaches that this season will be exciting. The men’s baseball team is eager to erase the memories of last Fall. They got off to a 0-8 start before their season ended because of disciplinary problems. “It was hard’ for many of the players last year,” said Rick Stoutamyer, Delco’s new baseball coach. “Finishing 0-8 left a sour taste for many of them.” Stoutamyer has been coaching baseball for over 10 years and will bring all that experience to his team this Spring. - “We have a lot of Freshman on this team, and we are hoping to build a solid nucleus around certain team members that will last for the next two years.” V-Ball Team Rounds Up Season By Joe Damiani Penn State Delco’s men’s volleyball team is doing very well this season and is placed high in their division standings. Why not attend the final three home games which are scheduled March 18 vs. Cabrini, March 25 vs. Lehigh and March 30 vs. Northeastern. All three games start at 8:00pm. The EPCC Tournament is at Northhampton, March 28 and will . start at 11:00pm. The CCAC Tournament will be at University Park on April 11. Three of the players that he speaks of are Tom Redden, Brick Bell, and Shane McCormick. They will anchor the starting rotation and also provide power in the middle of the line-up. “Versatility is our main strength this year,” Stoutamyer adds. “Almost all of players can field another position besides their own.” The Men's Lacrosse Club is expecting another brilliant season. Traditionally they always turn into good performers. Two years ago they went undefeated. “We are fortunate that many of our area high schools supply us with excellent lacrosse players”, says Tiz Griffith, Penn State Delco’s Athletics Director. There are thirty members of the Men’s Lacrosse Club. Its coach is John Terrel and the captain of the team is Jim Kirk. Woman's Varsity Tennis is also looking forward to its season. The team is coached by Griffith. The strong support of the team comes from Bess Bradley, Tammy Tuttle, Katie Glan, and Michelle Modesto, with additional support from Dinette Peoples, Laura Waznewsky, Donna Steel, and Chris Hitdirt. scorers for the season were Geoff Beaver, Greg Branche, Danny Inemar, and John Snyder. The last statistics for the best shooters had Geoff Beaver with 28 points, Greg Branche with 15 points, Danny Inemar with 17, and John Snyder scored 11 points. These high-scorers John Snyder, Greg Branche, and Danny Inemar were recognized for their performance as players in the 1st Team CCAC Conference all-star game. The sophomore players helped the eastern division beat the western division, 106-68. Wiley reported that the team will be losing four players this season. Since PSU Delco does not offer basketball scholarships, he ~ expressed that it is highly difficult to recruit players. “Many men that we recruit do not realize how viable a team this is. There is a lot of competition out there.” The head coach said it is too early to predict next season, but he said many freshman will be returning to the team. Players are not allowed to participate in the team for more than two years.
