At the invitation of colleagues and scholars, Mr. Ginsberg traveled to the University of Mississippi and | Milsap’s College in Mississippi to share his work and give public addresses. Over a period of five days, Mr. Ginsberg gave seven presentations and consulted with numerous students and faculty on Dr. Robert Ginsberg, Professor of Philosophy and Humanities. Photo by: DIANA MICERI many topics. He talked about the constitution and human rights, the aesthetics of law, the ethics of murder and the religion and enlightenment of Zen Buddhism. Among these thought-provoking topics was one other—racism. On a tour of the University of Mississippi, Mr. Ginsberg saw bullet holes in the administration building that symbolized the hostility of thirty years ago when an Afro- American male, James Meredith, attended the law school. Today, student and faculty of all races and creeds freely walk about the peaceful campus. Mr. Ginsberg found the people he talked to were very open to and aware of the racism problem, and had much to offer concerning possible solutions to the problem. When he wasn’t presenting, Mr. Ginsberg would utilize his free time by going out to lunch and dinner with colleagues, and even managed to visit Vicksburg, a famous battle field in Mississippi. Overall, he felt that the southern hospitality was tremendous and the area was tranquil. When I asked him his reaction to the trip, he said,” It was a great learning experience for me. I was invigorated by meeting new people and having my ideas tested out.” 20. Eugene Ormandy 28. Teddy Pendergrass 21. Ethel Waters 29. Todd Rundgren 30. Andre Watts 1989 awards 1990 awards 22.
