By Liz Russo Recently, the Penn State campus has been making security aware enough to investigate the reports of vandalism and theft. According to Diane Jankowski, “We are doing surveillance.” Another reason for fewer thefts is because yellow flyers have been placed on people's cars, warning them about the situation. If needed, the campus will send out more flyers in the future. Although expensive stereo equipment has not been stolen lately, nine cars have been broken into since the beginning of September. Out of those nine, seven cars did not have their equipment stolen. All nine had a least one window smashed. According to Jankowski, “The majority have taken place in the main parking lot; however, there have been three incidents in the library parking lot.” Both new and old cars have been broken into. Since the contents of the cars have been disturbed, it is believed that the thieves may not be professionals. To prevent more thefts from occurring, please lock your valuables inside of your trunk or leave them at home whenever possible. If you see anyone who looks or acts suspicious, don’t hesitate to contact any faculty or staff member. To inform security, please call Ext. 211.
