Joachim BOB EDGAR Bob Edgar is a democrat from the 7th district running for his third term as Con- gressman. This position is im- portant to all of Delaware Coun- ty because it effects us first hand. His decision making will have a direct influence on us as individuals. I will give you firsthand reports on major issues concerning Edgar and the 7th district. The first issue on Edgar's agenda is that of ‘Education’ — Choice A. 1.) Edgar tried to change Social Security deadline for col- lege bound students. 2.) Tried to fund Pell grants — Pheaa and Beog 3.) National Institute of Students endorsed Edgar 4.) Very smart in terms of economics 5.) More money on education and less money on wasteful nuclear buildup. Abortion — Choice B 1.) Supporter of pro choice 2.) No prohibitions for abor- tions : 3.) The Congress voted on federal funding for abortion in cases of rape, incest, or the woman's life is in danger. 4.) Edgar is mainly against unnecessary abortions Nuclear — Choice C 1.) For a nuclear freeze — Co- sponsor in Congress 2.) Against Geneva Con- ference — Nuclear build-up 3.) This is his first term running for Congress. This position is important to all of Delaware County because it will effect us directly. The bills proposed in Washington will probably deal with jobs for Delaware County and this is a very important issue today. While talking to Steve Joachim’'s campaign manager I found out the most important issue concerning him was jobs for the county. 1. Jobs A. Tough for a couple of years until economy gets moving. B. With big executives out of work it will be tough for College graduates. C. College students should try to get into job training pro- grams, such as, Seta. D. Getting the Economy back on its feet will be the solution to getting jobs for College graduates. E. Gradually as economy gets back on feet, jobs will be there. 2. Education A. For cuts in Pell Grants — PHEAA and BEOG. B. Over 5 years programs grew too much 1. 1977 — 330 million on student loans. 2. 1982 — 7 billion on student loans. : C. Too many people ripping off system. - their feet again. D. If income under 30,000 a year the loan is approved. E. If income is over 30,000 a year and you ask for a loan, a needs test must be taken in order to prove the need for the loan. F. For Reagan cuts in social security, NDSL, and VA 3. Nuclear War : A. Against Nuclear freeze. B. Supports negotiations in Geneva; will eventually reduce arms as much as one third. C. Oppose MX missiles but supports B1 bombers. D. The programs will take a long time to work. The build up is in case the negotiations in Geneva break off. E. Feels a nuclear build up will eventually start a nuclear freeze. F. For Intramediate range - talks on missiles. 4.Abortion A. Pro Life 5. Why is Steve Joachim for people? A. He will provide jobs for the District. B. He will eventually make the economy boom. C. He will be an advocate for the district and jobs, by getting Sunship and Boeing back on D. Steve Joachim votes for the District not his conscience.
