tfPorte Monday Night Football The MONDAY NIGHT FOOT BALL season began Sept. 9th in a grand old fash ioned way with the cont inuation of the long standing rivalry be tween the New York Giants and the Washington Red skins. These two teams play with the ferocity that only the Super Bowl can display. When these two teams play, vivid memories of past games come into mind, one being the game played two years ago where Lawrence Taylor broke the leg of QB Joe Theiss man in a nationally tele- vised game'. Although both teams worked on the ground it was the passing game of both sides that turned out to be the turning oints. Phil Simms of the Giants turned a spec tacular display in the air as he threw for over 200 yards as did Mark Rypien of the Redskins, but it was the special teams that made the difference in the game as Raul Allegre booted a 52 yard field goal with no time left on the clock to give the Giants the 27-24 win. Since thaT game the Redskins have gone 0-3 while the Giants have gone undefeated. The Redskins, being that they are in the Eastern Conference, must win their conference games to even think about a shot at the title. How ever, I don't think that will happen. I say "ta ta" to the Redskins for this year. Sacca’s TD beats Eagles Tony Sacca ran for a one yard touchdown run with forty seconds left in the the fourth guar- ■ ter as Penn State rallied from behind to defeat Boston College before a rain soaked Beaver Stadium crowd of about 85,000. The out spoken Sacca, taking the place of reg ular quarterback Tom Bill (suspended for violating campus rules), did little to impress Penn State head coach Joe Patemo or for that matter back up what he himself said to the press following last weeks romp of Temple. Pennant Racl/p Heat The Major League Base ball season is winding down now and it looks like the divisional championships will be given to the following teams: National League East- Chicago Cubs- this is barring any miracu lous comeback by the St. Louis Cardinals or the New York Mets. National League West- San fran cisco Giants- all but sewn up for them. Amer ican League East-this one is a toss up, if the Blue Jays hold to form they'll take it. If the Orioles hang tough and the Jays get bad breaks the O's can win it. Pre diction though, Toronto Blue Jays take it all. American League West- Qakland has it for sure. Going a little into the future I'll give pre dictions for the League champions and the even tual World Series champ ions. In a 7 game series the Giants will pull off the win over the over rated Chicago Cubs, while in the American League, in 7 games, with the up set, Toronto will de throne the defending A.L. champion A's. In the World Series, in 7 games, the Toronto Blue Jays will closethe decade out by giving Canada it's first World Championship ring. Sacca was quoted as saying "I want more playing time and if the situation doesn't change soon a transfer may be in the future.". Sacca completed cftiy four of 15 pass attempts, and seemed a bit hesitant on every play. He also threw an interception that killed a potential game winning drive, but he made up for most of it with his touchdown run toward the final stages of the game. Boston College had gotten on the board first, when Brian Lowe capped off a drive with a 28 yard field following a 15 yard face masking penalty. The next game for the Nittany Lions will be on the road against the Texas Longhorns. PSU VOLLtBAU set to WIN!!
