Page 4 The Highacres Collegian Monday, January 29, 1979 SGA R>J)b* Dear Students, I hope that by the sixth week of winter term, SGA finds all of you doing well and happy at Hazleton. I’d just like to fill you in on some of the things your SGA has been doing. We are in the process of get ting out a Course Description booklet. The courses will be described by the Instructor of each course and will be put in the library. We realize that registration for Spring term will be over by the time this booklet will be available for use, but it can still be useful for those students who would like to drop or add a course on their schedule. We have set up an Awards Banquet Committee in preparation for the Awards Banquet. The tentative date will be May 11th. At this time I would like to express my and SGA’s ap preciation to Vice President Kim Parson and Treasurer Claude Parnell, they have done an ex cellent job working in SGA and I would like to wish them good luck out at University Park. SGA is in the process of looking into getting the library to stay open later at night for extended student use. We will be having an election for the Vice President position on January 31. I hope everyone will go to the. polls and vote for their favorite candidate. I’d like to congratulate Katy Peters as being chosen as SGA’s Treasurer for the remainder of the school year. Congratulations! That’s about all of the news that I can update you on. If I don’t get a chance to write again, GOOD LUCK on Winter Finals. Respectfully yours, Marc Rovito SGA President DRAMA CLUB By KEITH KNEAREM The 12th annual Comeriety Show will be held on Friday January 26, 1979, at 8:00 p.m. in the Commons. What is Comeriety? It is a combination comedy-variety show that pokes fun at the cam pus and its personalties. Skits are presented by the students and faculty, and will be judged on their originality, satirical value, audience reaction, and of course, dumb luck. The proceeds will go toward the Samuel Prit chard Academic Leadership and Achievement Awards that are presented at the Spring Awards Banquet. For an evening of amusement and entertainment come up to the Commons on Friday, January 26th at 8:00 p.m. COMERIETY By BILL GORSKI For the past eleven years the Drama Club has presented Comeriety, a show of skits, satirical comment, and good natured humor. Usually the shows actors are a mixture of faculty and students. This year, however, due to the un derwhelming response of non committal supporters of the show its tital is to be changed to Apathy. The presentation is scheduled for Friday, January 26th. In the event of this con tinued disinterest the show can be seen on the twelfth of never at 8:00 p.m. Rumor has it that poor par ticipation can be attributed to Jeanne Dixon’s prediction of a severe case of stage fright on Jan. 26, 1979, for everyone with an astrological sign. All those at Highacres who are not in possession of a zodiac sign are. scheduled to go on a biology field trip with Dr. Frankel to the Hersher Theater in Hazleton, and take notes on “Bambi.” If participation is extremely poor, Jay Breckenridge, producer, will present a monologue on the merits of (Continued on Page 8) rtwy.vuifinnfn LITTLE BUDDIES ENJOY POOL INTRAMURAL SPORTS BOARD BUD SWENSON President WE NEED FRESHMAN MEMBERS! Presently the Intramural Sports Board is comprised of all sophomore members. This presents a big problem for next year’s intramural sports. I’m sure you can see what I mean. At the board’s last meeting, we decided to order a different color t-shirt for each term. Win ter term shirts will probably be blue with white lettering. Also a reminder that Superstars and Winter Olympic activities are just around the corner. If you want to goof around and have a real good time, sign up in Mr. Young’s office in the Physical Ed Building for these events. In Superstars your competition is on an individual basis where as Winter Olympics are comprised of six member teams. The entry fee for both events, which last only two days per event, is only 50 cents. COME ON OUT AND ENJOY YOURSELVES. Schedule of Events: Superstars, January. 30th and 31st - 6:30 p.m. Winter Olympics and 6th - 6:30 p.m. Details and entry forms can be found in Mr. Young’s office. RHO By KEITH KNEAREM The newest addition to our numerous campus associations is not exactly here yet. The Phi Delta Rho Fraternity’s con stitution was not accepted by the S.G.A. at the January 9th meeting, due to the comical nature of the said constitution. Well the Rho is trying again. Our constitution has been revised and rewritten in a more serious nature, and our charter should be granted this time around. So keep watching for the coming of the Rho and more detailed information about it. - Feb. sth By KIM PARSONS Vice President SGA January 16, 1979 the gym became infested with 25 children aging from 4 years old to 15 years old. The children are par ticipants in the Greater Hazleton Area Big Buddy Program which I have explained in previous columns. These children are from one parent families and come to expell their energies. H.C.A.C.’s Big Buddy Gym night is the title we give this event. Each child is matched with a student from this campus and they have 2 hours of time (an hour of swimming and an hour of playing and bowling) to communicate with their Big Bud dy. For these children this event and the communication that takes place is of great im portance. The Big Buddy volun teers for the night agree in that it is one of the most rewarding feelings that can be experienced. The next time you see a date in the “Communique” with Big Buddy Gym Night, give us a visit. If you believe you would like to participate sign up for the next one, volunteers are' always welcome. I also would like to say good luck to President Marc Rovito and the student government association, also Dean McCallus and Everitt Binns. I will be tran sferring to University Park and will be resigning from my office as Vice President. Have a good spring term everyone and good luck.
