* HIGH ACRES Monday, March 26, 1979 New Position For Staudenmeier Ns I -mf , x. Upon the retirement of Mr. William Schneider, former campus Assistant Director, in January 1979, a very important job had been vacated. Recently, the position was nationally advertised, and Penn State was swamped with applica tions for the title. Lady luck seems to have smiled in our direction. Out of IS6 applicants for the job of ‘Associate Director for Academic Affairs,’ Dr. James Staudenmeier was chosen. The task of choosing a replace ment involved a personal screening of each applicant by an advisory search committee. This group was established to assist the director in this difficult choice. When the range of applicants was narrowed, hill Marianne Pindar Co-Editor more interviewing and evaluating took place. The final selection was made by our campus Director, Dr. William David, and some officials from University Park. The original committee was composed of four of our local campus faculty and four representatives from State College. Mr. ‘’Attend, Dr. Galanti and Mrs. Jage represented the faculty of Highacres. In his new position, Stauden meier will serve as chief academic officer of the Campus. He will, under the supervision of the Campus Director, be responsible for providing leadership and develop ing and maintaining academic programs in resident and continu ing education. Other areas of responsibility include assessing local community academic needs; academic planning and develop ment; recruitment, assignment, evaluation and development of faculty; course scheduling and records; and participation in other Campus and University activities. Applicants for this position are expected to have a doctoral degree and a minimum of five years of experience in teaching and/or administration of higher education. Dr,. Staudenmeier fills these requirements more than adequate ly. He has an impressive list of credits behind him. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Philosophy at St. Mary’s University in Maryland, he moved on to Bucknell University where he was awarded a Master of Science Hazleton Campus Penn State University COLLEGIAN * degree in Counseling and Psychology Education Supervision and Administration. Staudenmeier was granted a Doctorate in Counselor Education with a minor in Psychology and a course core in Administration in Higher Education atPSU. Adding to the list of credentials, Dr. Staudenmeier taught secondary school in Pennsylvania, and college courses at graduate and under graduate levels. He was a Director of Guidance, and at one time taught resident and continuing education at Penn State. He is also licensed as a Psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania. Dr. Staudenmeier and his wife Dorothy, currently reside in Conyngham. At home, he is a member of the ‘Conyngham Boro Council,’ and he delivers talks to various community groups. The couple has four children • Robin, Jimmy, Laura and Sarah. They are also the proud owners of a duck, a parakeet, a dog, also help an underprivileged family of stray cats, who live nearby. He has served in the Army as a radar specialist, and has traveled through Canada and Mexico. He also served as Faculty Chairman and has been associated with the University Faculty Senate since 1969. His former position at Highacres included: Registrar (scheduling and admissions officer), and Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) advisor and counselor. In the past, he was the Psychologist for a Volume 14 Number 5 division which included Wilkes Barre, Scranton, and Hazleton. Also, he served as Coordinator of the Educational Opportunity and Gifted Student Programs. When asked about his impression of our Campus in general, Dr. Staudenmeier replied, “The most pleasant and challeiiging thing I found at the campus, is the mixture of students scholastically, geo graphically and personality-wise. (This also goes for faculty and staff). The size of the Campus is good for someone who likes to work closely with people.” He goes on to say that he will miss his former job, but this new position provides a new challenge for him and he can still maintain close contact with the faculty and students. As with all jobs that move up the proverbial ‘ladder of success,’ this position too comdsr with a new atmosphere. Dr. Staudenmeier has moved down the hall and now occupies the office formerly belong ing to Mr. Schneider. He also has a new secretary, Mrs. Ruth Reichart. I cannot end this article without one further comment, DR. STAUDENMEIER, you are some one who is always ready and willing to accept the challenge of any , problem brought before. you, no matter how large or small.
