Erie showcased with That Thing You Do by Sara Prosser Collegian Staff Erie has finally made it big, or at least to the big screen. The movie, "That Thing You Do" sneak previewed in Erie last weekend, and is now at theaters nationwide. "That Thing You Do" takes place in 1964 and revolves around a young band from Eric, The Wonders. The band, Guy (Tom Everett Scott), Jimmy (Jonathon Schaech), Lenny (Steve Zahn), and the bass Player (Ethan Embry) get a quick glimpse of success when their hit song, "That Thing You Do", is released. As The Wonders are thrown into the hectic world of rock and role, they watch their hit single rise on the Billboard charts. They soon come to realize that their lives will never be the same again. I have to admit that when I first saw the previews for That Thing You Do, I didn't think that it would be worth seeing. Then when I heard it was based in Erie, I thought that it might be interesting. Now that 1 have had the chance to see the movie, I have totally changed my opinion. This movie is a fun story about music, friendship, love and change. It also shows how people's lives can change in the blink of an eye. I really enjoyed this film. The acting was great, even though the cast consisted of many newcomers. Tom Hanks wrote and produced the film, as well as played the part of Mr. White, The Wonders manager. Liv Tyler, who played Faye, Jimmy's girlfriend, is also Erie Moming/Daily Time worth mentioning. There is only one bad thing that I can say about the film. If you don't know the words to "That Thing You Do," you will by the end of the hour and a half. (The song is played numerous times through out the film). I definitely recommend seeing this film, if not for the story, then at least to hear Erie mentioned a few times on the big screen. peRFOZMANCe lrr Y Ochs Entertainment IN CONCEPT What We Live combines the talents of three prominent artists working at the cutting edge of jazz.
