Men suffer setback by Erin Morrell Collegian Steffi The men’s soccer team suffered a defeat, 5-0, on Saturday against Carnegie Mellon. Its record now stands at 6-7-2. “We played an outstanding team. I know they will be going to the N.C. tournament. We did play well in the second half,” said Coach Dan Perritano. Sean Blank said, “We played a much better team. During the second half we stepped up and held them to one goal. The first half was difficult but we pulled together the second half.” “1 really don’t know what to say. I think that we showed a lot of heart. We played a better team and we knew that going into the game. We didn’t give up when they scored and we played physical,” said Andy Laffcrty. David Harrison said, “It was a rough game; we were out matched. We never gave up and we continued to play.” Ryan Ruta summed up the loss to Carnegie Mellon by saying, “I guess they were a more technical team. The second half we came out and played harder and more physical. We gave them a game the second half and we proved a lot to ourselves that half.” The next game is Saturday at Mount Union. On Wednesday, October 26 the Lions will take on Slippery Rock at home. This time Hilbert College was the victim, as the Lady Lions posted a final score of 2-0. This was a soccer game with a twist as Hilbert College brought eight players to Behrend for the contest A usual match requires each team to have eleven players on the field at one time. “It was very unfortunate that we had to play under these circumstances,” said Head Coach RkkNese. Behrend made the adjustment and matched its counterparts by also playing with eight players on the field. Although the pace of the game was slower, the College outcome was no different as Behrend won its fifth game in five tries. “It wasn’t one of the prettiest matches but we stuck it out, and got the win,” said Nese. “It wasn’t one of the prettiest matches, but we got the win.” -Coach Nese provided the first goal halfway through the first half. Senior goalkeeper Becky Eckendorf has guarded the nets, allowing just one goal which came against Allegheny in the first game of the season. The Lady Gators of Allegheny will visit Behrend today for a rematch against our Lady Lions.
