Welcome Wagon plans active year with President Lois Phalen by Susan R. Back “Our aim is to be friends to newcomers, give service and aid to our community, and have some fun!’’ says Lois Phalen, new president of Welcome Wagon in Mount Joy. Born in Minnesota, Lois lived in several states before moving to the Mount Joy community three years ago. Lois, her husband Dale, and two children Erin, 7 and Laura, 2 are members of the Mount Joy Presbyterian Church where she is a member of the choir. Before holding the office of President, Lois served as co-chairman of socials for the club and treasurer of a women’s bowling league. She enjoys crafts, sewing, embroidery, knitting, de- coupage and canning. She stresses the importance of being a homemaker, but also feels women should be treated equally. Lois states, “I feel strongly about being a full time homemaker, wife and mother while the children are young; I could- n’tdevote as much time and energy to my activities outside the home if Dale didn’t share the work with me as competently and generously as he does. We have a very special and beautiful relationship in our marriage .”’ Being the Bicentennial enthusiast that she is, Lois has centered the club’s theme on the Bicentennial idea. The club’s sponsor board, made by Joanne Fry, historian, reflects this i- mage. One of the club’s money-making projects is selling Bicentennial candles Officers for the 75-76 year “include: Thelma Rankin, 1st Vice President, Faye Rintz, 2nd Vice President, Denise Brady, Secretary, Linda Fox, Corresponding Secre- tary, Barbara Sheirer, Trea- surer, and Joanne Fry, Historian.
