, 1975 April 16, 1975 Guidance at DHS Career Elective Program gives students practical ex- perience in many varied oc- cupational areas. Students and parents are also encouraged to utilize the guidance services for personal counseling whether on an individual or group basis. The counseling stafi works closely with specialist: from the office of Inter mediate Unit No. 13 such as the school psychologist, speech therapist, hearing specialist and vision special ists and also with the school nursing staff on referrals to various community agencies such as Bureau of Children’s Services, Family and Child- ren’s Service, Pennsylvania State Employment Service, Urban League of Lancaster and the Human Relations Committee of Lancaster County. by Mrs. Grimm Donegal High School has three counselors available to aid students in all aspects of educational, vocational and educational planning. In addition to the more traditional guidance services of college admission coun- seling, vo-tech admission counseling and course selec- tion programming, many new services are now offered to students and parents. One such program is the Diversified Occupations pro- grams. In this program stu- dents attend classes on a half-day basis and work in business or industry the other half day. Another program is the Career Elective Programs, in which seniors are excused during the month of May to observe and work in an area of career interest. Up-to-date files of edu- cational and vocational ma&: terials are maintained in the guidance office for the use of students and parents. Information on financial aid and scholarship oppor- tunities is made available to students through the use of announcements in a‘““Junior- Senior Bulletin” posted in homerooms and offices at regular intervals throughout the school year. Students who wish to follow up on the opportunities listed are given individual help with application forms and coun- selors write many letters of recommendation. All new students to the school are oriented through the guidance offices. This year a special pro- gram has been instituted for parents of in-coming ninth grade students. Parents are invited to visit the school for _a meeting with administra- ‘tors and counselors, have lunch in the cafeteria and visit regularly scheduled classes in the afternoon to observe and confer with teachers.
