This pro- gram is operated and spon- sored through Lanc. County Area Vo-Tech Schools. Diversified Occupations is an extension of a student’s vocational education that combines classroom instruc- tion in employability skills with half day work experi- ence in a student’s chosen field. After a student is placed on the job, they are supervised by Joe Sciortino, Donegal’s Diversified Occu- pations Coordinator. Kevin Earhart, Kevin Milligan, Holly Baker and Steve Hassinger, members of the marching, concert and stage bands, will attend the session. Sciortino visits the student on the job and confers with the employer as to his pro- gress, etc. This school year there are 21 students attending classes half days and working in various occupational areas the other half. “This pro- gram gives a graduating sen- ior a head start in obtaining full-time employment in the field of his choice,” explains Mr. Sciortino. ‘By training during his high school educa- tion and during summers with an employer, that em- ployer most likely will hire that student full-time upon graduation.” Why? The students employability is in- creased tenfold over that of other applicants because this student has worked possibly up to 2 years for that em- ployer before graduation. During this time he has been trained in the total operation of that occupa- tional field, learning the Girl Scout NEws Girl Scout Troop No. 25, Maytown, Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council, (Mrs. John Winters, leader), enter- tained members of Troop No. 318, Marietta, at a party in anticipation of attaining the hospitality badge. Each patrol had its func- tion. Invitations were pre- pared by Kim Derr’s patrol; Pam Ney’s patrol prepared the refreshments; decora- tions were placed by the committee of Sherry Derr; Tish Barnitz and her patrol invented original games and the clean up patrol function- ed under the guidance of Cindy Anspach. Forty-six persons were present for the event where the Easter theme was carried out in decorations and goodies. Mrs. Mike Lippold, lead- er of the guest troop was present as was Mrs. Harold Derr from the host troop. way duties are to be per- formed and freeing the em- ployer of the orientation process of hiring a new full- time employee. In other words, an employer can fit and mold a student into the workings of his business, before he is hired as a full- time employee. If an employer is inter- ested in the program he may contact Mr. Sciortino at the high school (653- 1871) for further informa- tion. The following employers have participated in the D.O.
