Wins ceramic certificate A Marietta professional Ceramist is one of 21 shop- owners and teachers in Cen- tral Pennsylvania who earn- ed their National Ceramic Association Teachers Accre- ditation Certificate this past spring. Mrs. Mary Portner, oper- ator of Portner’s Ceramics Studio, Fairview Avenue, re- | ceived her certificate at a récent meeting of the Cen- tral Pennsylvania Profession- al Ceramics Association. This local association is the first in the area to of- fer the N.C.A. teachers ac- creditation program, which includes both oral and writ- ten examinations. The en- tire teaching membership passed the test. Participants received a manual from which to study for the testing. National group audits lo- cal affiliates would like to see the certification of cgra- mic teachers become manda- tory. PACK 263 MEETS MARY JANE LANDIS ON WGAL-TV by Charles A. Eshleman Cubmaster Cub Scout Pack 263 of Mount Joy appeared on the program “Sunshine Corners” hosted by Mary Jane Landis on Saturday, February 15, at 7:30 p.m. Pack 263 traveled to the studios of WGAL-TV on Thursday, February 13, at 7:30 p.m. while the pro- gram was being taped. It was during the taping of this program that Steven Miller of the Pack presented Mary Jane with a Valentine from the Pack asking her to be their Valentine for 1975. Greg Miller was honored for having a birthday. Four- teen Cubs and their leaders made the trip. : The Pack also held their Blue and Gold Banquet on Saturday, February 15, at the Florin Fire House. Each family brought a covered dish. A film entitled “The Flight of Apollo Eleven” was presented as the enter- tainment. Mr. Marty Bowman, presi- dent of the Hempfield Ser- toma Club, the Pack’s spon- sor, was present for the ban- quet. Sixty people were in attendance. The Pack also attended church on Sundav. Febru- ary 23, at St. Mary’s Catho- lic Church, Mount Joy. While a good many adult citizens are still asleep or just coming to and yawning on a Wednesday morning, a group of elementary school students has been up for some time and are going through some vigorous acro- batics in the gym at Seiler School in Mount Joy. They deserve their name, “The Early Birds,” because they show up at the school at 7 a.m., spend an hour in their vigorous gymnastics, and then have breakfast to- gether at 8 o’clock. Then, they are ready to start their regular school day. This January it was still dark when they arrived at Seiler. The “Early Bird” pro- gram is under the direc- tion of Warren “Whitey” Hayman. Barbara St. Marietta takes share “With regrets,” Marietta Borough informed Donegal School Board last week that it plans to take one-half of the one percent earned in- come tax, instead of one- quarter as previously. Marietta’s action follow- ed Mount Joy Council’s de- cision to take the full one- half to which the municipali- ties are entitled. Mount Joy’s decision automatically gave one-half of the one percent tax to every other municipality in the school district, including not only Marietta, but East Donegal Township, and Mount Joy Township.
