NANCY NEWCOMER Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Kline and . daughters Beth, Susan, and Mary Lou spent a week camping at the head of the Kenogamissi Lake at Tim- mins, Ontario, Canada in June. They pitched their tent in a deserted area, 55 miles from the nearest town. While they caught pickerel and nor- thern wall-eye bass, One mor- ning they reported it was 20 degrees. They enjoyed a boat trip for nine miles down the Kenagomissi Lake, It was a special thrill to see moOSE roaming freely in the woods. They saw several gold, silver and granite mines and toured the McCauley mine at Schu- macher, Ontario. En route home they viewed the home of the famous Dionne quin- tuplets near North Bay, On- tario, and visited Niagara Falls, Upon returning home, they repacked and left with Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Longe- necker and daughter Debbie for four days at Ocean City, Maryland, It was the first ocean experience for the three girls. They stayed at the Wishing Well camp grounds and caught 20 flounder while fishing in the bay from their boat. 3k 3k # Freeman Naugle, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Barnhart, and Mr. and Mrs. Willis Ament, ac- companied the Kissinger Tour to Las Vegas, Nevada, where the Lions International convention was held June 22 to 25. The tour started via United Airlines Jet plane from Middletown Sunday morning and returned to Mid- dletown Friday evening. Mr. "and Mrs. Barnhart spent Monday with a small plane trip of 220 miles to the Grand Canyon National park, part of which was in the Can- yon between the North and South Rims. The vertical dis- tance from the rim to the bed of the Colorado is one mile, and the average distance from North Rim to South Rim is 9 miles. The Aments spent the day on a trip to Disneyland, near Los Angeles while Mr. Naugle took the tour to Lake Mead & Fire, The convention opened with a parade starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Over 100 per- sons, including marchers, pas- sed out due to the heat. The average day temperature in Las Vegas is 110° but the hu- midity is only 6%. The Lions convention end- ed Thursday noon, after the process of electing a Third Vice President was complet- ed. * * * Several families spent the July 4th weekend . enjoying the mountains, camping at Woodward Cave in Centre county. They visited Mrs. Par- doe’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Webster. While in San Antonio they went up in the Tower of the Americans at the site of the Hemisphere = World's -Fair, saw the Alamo and drove in- to Mexico. As a one day trip they toured the Astrodome in Houston and enjoyed a base- ball game between Houston and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The children particularly en- joved Six Flags Over Texas in Dallas, which is a huge amusement park with 85 var- ious attractions. In St. Louis, Mo. they toured Grant's Farm, the home of the fam- ous Anheiser Busch Clydes- dale horses, Their last stop was in Indianapolis, Ind. for a tour of the Indianapolis 500 Speedway. sk sk WH Jimmy McNiff, son of Mr. and Mrs, James McNiff is spending one month in Mus- kegon, Michigan visiting with his grandmother, Mrs. Elsa McNiff, While there a fishing trip to Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada, is planned. Miss Cheryl Heaps, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heaps, left Friday, July 9th for a one month stay in Lienz Austria, She is among a group of 300 high school stu- dents from all over the Uni- ted States with the American Institute of Foreign Study. Cheryl is staying at a school in Lienz and studying the German customs, along with a varied program of sports and music. Combs of 260 Cooper avenue, Landisville, is a member of the Women of the Air Force (WAF) which recently celebrated its 23rd anniversary. Lieut. Combs is a person- nel officer and chief of qual- ity control with the 483rd Combat Support Group at Cam Ranh Bay AB, Vietnam. She is among the WAF members who have served in vital and varied roles in the combat theatre during the past year. A 1964 graduate of Hemp- field high school, the lieuten- ant received a B.S. degree in 1968 from Juniata college, Huntingdon, Pa. She was commissioned later that year upon completion of Officer (U.S. Air Force Photo) Training School at Lackland AFB, Texas. Her husband, Captain Allen E. Combs, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A.
