Miss Grace Henderson Mrs. Anna Hollenbaugh The Arnold Finks and Ad- am Greers spent the Labor Day weekend at a summer cottage at the Chesapeake New Generators PP&L To Use Combustion Engineering, Inc. has been selected to fur- mish two huge steam genera- tors for the 1,800,000-kilo- watt Keystone Generating Station, to be built in the western Pennsylvania coal fields, it has been announced by Chas. E. Oakes, chairman of the board of Pennsylvnia Power & Light Company, P. P & L. is one of three major eastern utility companies who will own the plant in Armstrong county, ten miles west of Indiana, Pa. The local utility executive pointed out that the contract to Combustion ngineering, Inc. is the largest ever a- warded for steam-generating equipment. Each steam generator will be about as tall as a 20-story building — nearly 220 feet high—and almost half the area of a football field — 130 feet by 125 feet at the base. Each is designed to produce more steam than any other “single-furnace” generator ever built. At full load, al- most 15,000 tons of coal will be burned daily in the fur- naces to turn water into steam to drive the plant's turbine generators—the equi- valent of about 50-ton coal car every 5 minutes ’'round- the-clock. This is the second major plant equipment contract a- warded by the utilities in re- *| July. Actual spent last weekend at Ephra- ta. Sgt. James McFarland, of Maryland has a 30-day leave. He is spending it with his parents. cent weeks, the order for the plant's big turbine generators having been placed with Westinghouse Electric in construction is expected to start at the site in 1964, with the plant's first unit to be in service in 1967 and the second in 1968. The huge Keystone plant will generate power virtually at mine-mouth and power will be transmitted as ‘‘coal-by- wire” to important markets in the East. The output of the plant is to be shared by Pub- lic Service Electric and Gas Company, Atlantic City Elec- tric Company, Baltimore Gas & Electric Company, Dela- ware Power & Light Com- pany, in addition to the own- ing companies. Help Wanted Why is it that you have to hire a guide for the compara- tively simple task of follow- ing a river, while you're en- tirely on your own in the matter of figuring out the double cloverleaf by-pass with thruway changeover which you encounter on the way to the river? More than half of all vehi- cle fires result from overheat- ed tires caused by underin- flation or defective wheel bearings. Since fire-fighting equipment is not readily av- ailable, the fires do serious damage, often making the vehicle a total loss. Patronize Our Advertisers (CARL B.
