All new officers will be inducted at the January 12 fire company meeting. In other business, Fire Chief Charles Shaffner re- ported six emergency calls for the month of November: one vehicle accident; one dumpster fire; one grass and cornfield fire; two assist calls; and one standby call. Fire equipment was in service 14 hours, and a total of 74 fire people responded on the month’s calls. Fire company member Curtis Sharpe was added to the driver’s list. Fire company members are selling the 1981 Lan- caster County Eat Out and Dine Out books. See any member for information on purchasing the books. 1981 fire company dues are payable to any fire company officer, or by remitting to P.O. Box 68, Maytown, PA 17550. A dues card will be returned. A budget committee has been established for 1981, and a report will be given at the January meeting. The fire company is also finalizing proposed changes to the Fire Company Constitution and By-Laws, to be adopted by the membership at the January 12 meeting. Zoning variances for a carport at 426 West Market St., and for a home occupation (coffee and tea shop) at Gay and Market Streets was approved. The council learned that all housing inspections have been completed for the year. Only two properties were reported in violation. There were eight fire calls for the month, involving $36,000 damage. Property valued at $38,500 was saved. The borough office will be closed Friday, December 26.
