_—_— November 19, 1980 Did You Hear? §§§ Dr. and Mrs. Burchard E. Wright of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Donegal Heights, Mount Joy, re- turned in early October from a 15-day tour of Egypt. After several days in Cairo visiting the Citadel, nearby tombs and pyramids, there was a boat trip up the Nile from Luxor to Aswan with stops at Esna, Edfu and Kom-Ombo to visit the Valley of Kings (Tut’s tomb and others), various temples and tombs carved out of solid rock thousands of years ago. Surprisingly modern hotels were found at Aswan. The Aswan high dam, a much touted Russian enterprise not long ago, turns out to be a dirt dam already paid for by Egypt, according to Dr. Wright. From Aswan the Wrights took a flight to Abu Simbel where many giant statues and the temples behind them were cut apart and reassembled at a higher level to prevent them from flooding. They then took a flight back to Cairo for a tour of the Cairo Museum where a person could spend months without even getting to the thousands of Tut artifacts (in gold, yet). In mid-October, after returning, the Wrights jour- neyed to Philadelphia to attend the President’s din- ner at Dr. Wright’s alma mater, Jefferson Medical College. §§§ Constance M. Dr. Duncan is retiring in early January after 34 years at Millersville. On hand to take part in the friendly ‘‘roast’’ was Donegal School District superintendent Ragnar F. Hallgren. “I was in a rough position,’ Mr. Hallgren told the Susquehanna Times. He was the first superintendent to ‘‘roast’” Duncan. “‘Up until that point everyone had only good things to say - about Dr. Duncan.’’ Mr. Hallgren joked with group, explaining that it took a war to get him out of the Donegal District. Dr. Duncan joined the Army in 1942 after teaching in the local district. Joking that the Maytown building was not sure it wanted him back (Duncan taught at Maytown), Mr. Hallgren presented Dr. Duncan with a W3-33 form signed on the right side, to ‘“make sure he doesn’t come back.” Hallgren also pointed to the fact that Duncan stole a district teacher.
