Senior Erica Nissley is band Drum Major Erica Nissley, a senior at Donegal High School, has been selected as the Drum Major of the Band for the current school year. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Nissley, Mount Joy, Erica is enrolled in the academic course at Donegal and hopes to major in Physical Therapy or Social Welfare upon completion of high school. She has one sister who is enrolled in Lancaster Gen- eral Hospital School of Nursing. Erica began playing flute in fourth grade and learned to play the bassoon when she entered the high school band. She attended a camp for Drum Majors at Millers- ville State College this summer and is very en- thusiastic about that ex- perience. ‘““You learn to know more people and earn a lot of experience when attending a camp like that,” she says. Erica is looking forward to leading Donegal’s marching band this year. The year’s events include parades, football games, and the possibility of some competi- tions. A spring concert is also presented by the concert band. Mixed doubles (cont.) [continued from back page] in Mount Joy. A pre-entry fee of $4.00 is due (postmarked) Septem- ber 27. After the 27th the fee is $5.00 until 15 minutes before race time. Registra- tion and check-in for the races will start at 8:00 for the kids’ run, 8:30 for the two-mile run, and 9:30 for the five mile run. T-shirts of gold and blue lettering will be given to all contestants who register by September 27. A $25.00 gift certificate will be given to the winning male-female team (on the basis of combined times) in the two- and five-mile races. The second place’ winners will receive a $15.00 certificate, and third place winners will receive one for $10.00. Switching partners in the middle of the race, or at any time after registration, is not allowed. Individual winners will also receive gift certificates. The individuals will compete in age brackets. The age groups are: 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and S0 and up. Kids aged 4-12 will compete for three prizes in their age group. Hospital holds meeting The Marietta Auxiliary to the Columbia Hospital held a luncheon meeting at the Colonial Inn recently, with Mrs. Herbert Sarver con- ducting the business ses- sion. The schedule of the year’s upcoming meetings was distributed and projects were tenatively planned. A public pinochle party - will be held Wednesday, October 22, at 8 pm in the Marietta Community House. A Christmas lunch- eon benefit will be held at the home of Mrs. Sarver December 1, 12:30 pm. Monies from these events will be used to pay off the pledge made by the group for hospital equipment. The October 13 meeting will be held at the home of Miss Ruth Wisman with Mrs. Robert Hebry serving as co-chairperson. The November session will be held at Nissley Vineyards with Mrs. Will- iam Heisey, Mrs. George Houseal and Miss Mary Carroll as co-hostesses. Other meetings will be February 9, March 9, April 13 and May 11. All meetings are at 1:30 pm unless otherwise designated.
