as all €S ce 1b ot nd S€ as CS of August 6, 1980 Valuable primitive painting, silverware stolen A valuable 173-year-old primitive oil painting and two place settings of silverware of approximately the same age were stolen Friday (July . 25) from exhibits at the William Penn Memorial Museum, Harris- burg. The painting is described as follows: Primitive oil painting depicting the en- gine house of the Fairmount Waterworks in Philadelphia. It shows the engine house (a Greek architectural style building with a round central dome) to the right and a fountain with statue to the left, all within an oval. The border of the oval is black with gold bellflower decorations. Below the oval are the initials ‘‘C.S.H.”’ and the date ‘‘1827.” Framed dimensions 10% by 9 inches; panel alone, 8 5/8 by 6 7/8 inches. Catalog No. 69.16. The silverware is de- scribed as follows: Two place settings of sterling flatware. The forks and spoons are marked ‘‘Shep- ard & Boyd’ on the blades and are engraved with a lion rampant on the handle with the legend, ‘‘Pro Patria.” All pieces date approximate- ly 1810-1835. Catalog No. 77.3. The Pennsylvania State Police have been notified of the loss from the collections of the Pennsylvania Histor- ical and Museum Com- mission, and, in effect, a loss by the people of Pennsylvania. BPW club hold picnic July 28th Members of the Mount Joy Business and Pro- fessional Women’s Club held their outdoor summer event at Brubaker’s Stone- bridge Farm on Monday, July 28. The Brubakers conducted a tour of the slaughterhouse facilities and John Henry Brubaker, owner, presented a meat cutting demonstra- tion while his wife, Velma, narrated. The couple opened both their store and their 18th century home to the guests. A picnic supper was catered by the Bru- bakers. Yvonne Koser served as chairperson for the outing with committee members Frances Little, Elaine Richards, Teen Brown and Thelma Eshleman. Door prizes were given out.
