In just a few short years, Brian’s Song has acquired legendary status. The true story of the deep friendship between Gale Sayers, black halfback for the Chicago Bears, and his white teammate Brian Piccolo, culminated in Piccolo’s death from cancer at 26, is generously moving and humanitarian. When it first appeared on television in 1971 it won an Emmy for best single program of the year; since then it has won virtually every major broad- | casting award, including the coveted Peabody, and mil- lions of Americans have been touched by the un- usual relationship between these two football players and the triumph of that relationship over Piccolo’s personal tragedy. Brian’s Song is ultimately about two men who came to love and respect each other both on and off a football field—and about the illness that cut that friendship short and at the same time made it immortal. Its message of brotherhood is strong and compelling. Brian’s Song is available free of charge. Reservations can be made by calling the Film Center at the Lancaster County Library at 394-2651.
