Amy Hess (14 and under girls) broke the butterfly record for the team at 33.0, and the girls 14 and under relay team (Emmy Zuch, Dee Arndt, Stacey Gingrich and Amy Hess) broke the record with a 2:15.4 for 200 meters. Mount Joy kept busy, traveling to Lancaster to swim against Maple Grove Thursday, July 10. They continued their winning ways with a 275 to 133 victory. There were more records set at this meet also. Andy Breault (10 and under boys) set a team record for the 25 meter free style with a time of 16.4. Mark Shearer (14 and under boys) set a pool record for the 50 meter fly stroke with a time of 35.9. The 14 and under girls’ relay team broke their own team record for the 200 meter swim with a time of 2:13.9. Members of the relay were Emmy Zuch, Dee Arndt, Stacey Gingrich and Amy Hess. The team traveled to Conestoga Tuesday, July 15, and will host the County Pool Thursday, July 17, for the last home meet of the season. They will travel to Lititz Springs July 22 for the last league meet of the summer. Swim team members are now collecting pledges for the ‘“‘Swim for Cancer’’ of Lancaster County. They will be swimming their laps sometime in the next two weeks. This is the eighth year for the Mount Joy Lions team to participate. The parents club met on July 4 at the pool to hold the drawing on the Meat Raffle. Arthur Braun, 80, enjoys birthday picnic Arthur Braun, 719 Wood Street, Mount Joy, was the guest of honor at an outdoor picnic held Sunday to celebrate his 80th birthday. The event was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lucille Epler. Mr. Braun, whose birthday is July 6, retired from the Bachman Chocolate Factory in 1964 after 43 years of service there. He is married to the former Velma Hoffer and the couple has three child- ren: Mrs. Lucille Epler, Mount Joy; Ernest, Warrner Robins, Georgia; and Larry who lives in Kansas. They also have seven grandchild- ren and 13 great-grandchild- ren. Mr. Braun is the son of the late Jacob and Mary Braun. A member of the Gloss- brenner United Methodist Church, Mr. Braun has taught the Adult Ladies Sunday School class for 40 years.
