April 16, 1980 Home-ec class members with their young charges DHS students experience child-rearing A Donegal High home economics class got some realistic child-rearing ex- perience last week when more than a dozen young children spent the day in students’ care. Students in Mrs. Elinore Ruhl’s child development class devoted the entire school day to their little charges. The kids were entertained with games, stories, and filmstrips provided by the» Mount Joy library. They were taken on walks and were fed in the cafeteria, under student supervision. Embly Embly is Eagle scout Kristofer ‘‘Kip’’ J. Em- bly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jere Embly, Maytown, re- cently received his Eagle Rank in Scouting. Kip is a member of Troop #53, Maytown. Kip started his scouting program with the cub scouts and has held offices such as Quartermaster, junior assis- tant Scoutmaster, Den chief for Weblos and chaplain of troop #53. He is a member and Historian of the Order of the Arrow, Chiques Wunita Lodge. Kip holds 22 merit awards. His eagle project consisted of cleaning and re- planting a piece of ground adjoining the parking lot of St. John’s Lutheran Church, sponsor of troop #53. He put up four sections of rail fence and planted dogwood and azaleas. Sponsors for the project were Herr’s Fruit Market and the Marietta-Maytown Lion’s Club. Chapter, Buckley, Penny Trick, Betsey Germer, Mary Jane Gordner and Michelle Yohe. Mrta. Lions elect officers at next meet Parke Plasterer, Deputy District 14D Governor, Lion’s International, pre- sented a talk for the regular meeting of the Marietta Lion’s club dinner meeting at the Colonial Inn. Two new members were inducted by District membership chair- man, Bob Fackler—Harold Wilson and Walter Nau. Robert Spangler, presi- dent conducted the business session when the nominat- ing committee, Richard Smedley, James Price and Ivan Hess, presented the slate of candidates. Election will be held at the next meeting. The slate incluaes: Edgar Appley, president; Ronald Perry, 1st vice-president; James Libhart, 2nd vice- president and secretary; Patrick Kenney Jr., 3rd vice-president; Richard Mc- Kain, treasurer; Ivan Hess, tailtwister; Joe Gilmartin, one year trustee; Ivan Hess and Edward Charles, three year trustees. Edward Charles was ap- pointed a committee of one to investigate the costs of repairing the tennis courts at Memorial Park.
