October 10, 1979 United Telephone contributes to Community House Marietta’s Community House will receive a contri- bution from the Employees’ Charity Fund of the United Telephone Company, of Columbia. The Columbia district recently voted to make this contribution. The Board of Directors of the Community House has expressed their gratitude to the United Tel fund. Sylvia Henry was recently appointed caretaker of the Community House. She may be called at 426-1316 to make reservations. MT. Joy Jaycees sponsor doubles run Three mixed double runs will take place in Mount Joy on Saturday, Oct. 20th. The Mount Joy Jaycees are sponsoring this unique event to encourage male- female running teams as well as individual runners. Three runs—of 5S miles, 2 miles, and 1 mile (a fun run for kiddies)—will start and end at the Mount Joy Vo-Tech school. The 2-mile and 1-mile courses are mostly flat out and back. The S-mile run is hilly, and will be a challenge even to experienced runners. This course will pass scenic spots of Mount Joy. A pre-entry fee of $4.00 is \ due (postmarked) Oct. 12th. ‘After the 12th the fee is $5.00 . until race time. Registration and check-in for the race will start at 8:30 for the kids’ run, 9:00 for the 2-mile run, and 10:00 for the S-mile. If you pre-register, make your check payable to “*‘Mount Joy Jaycees.’’ Fees are not refundable. T-shirts of navy blue with stunning gold lettering will be given to all contestants who register by Oct. 19th. A $25 gift certificate will be handed to the winning male- female team (on the basis of combined times) in each race. The 2nd place winners will get a $15 certificate, and 3rd place winners will receive one for $10. Switching partners in the middle of the race, or at any time after registration, is not allowed. Individual winners will also get gift certificates. The individuals will compete in age brackets, and first place in each category gets a certificate. 2nd and 3rd places will be recognized. The age groups are 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 up. Kids aged 4-12 will compete for three prizes in their age group. Jack Loose to speak on “The other side of Lancaster” The October meeting of the Mount Joy Area Histor- ical Society will be held on Monday, October 15th, at the Society headquarters, Fairview Street, Mount Joy. “The Other Side of Lancaster’’ will be the topic of the guest speaker, John ‘‘Jack’ Loose, teacher of history at Donegal High School and a person well- versed on the heritage of Lancaster County. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Society will sponsor a Chicken Barbecue and Bake Sale on Saturday, November 3rd, from 3 to 6 p.m. Members of the Society will appreciate the public's re- sponse to this event which will benefit the building fund. The sale will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the Headquarters building.
