Deb Torres is Miss Donegal Area Deborah Torres Deborah Ann Torres was crowned Miss Donegal at the Miss Donegal Area Scholarship Pageant, spon- sored by the Mount Joy Jaycees in cooperation with the East Donegal Jaycees last Saturday evening. Deborah, 17, is the daughter of Mrs. Geraldine Torres, 139 N. Market Ave., Mount Joy, and Joe Torres, 530 E. Market St., Marietta. She was crowned by Linda Sherk, Miis Mount Joy 1978, and received a prize of $350 and a trophy. First runner-up was LuAnn Brenneman, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Brenneman, Mount Joy, R.D.1. LuAnn received $250 and a trophy. Second runner-up: was Jaclyn Zeller, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zeller, 122 N. Barbara St., Mount Joy. Jaclyn received $200 and a trophy. The Miss Congeniality award went to Tina Garner, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Garner, Sr., Mount Joy R.D.1. Joi Shearer, Miss Mount Joy 1977, presented Tina with the award. At 3 a.m., Sunday, the new Miss Donegal took a plane’ to Durham, New Hampshire, where she will be playing with a summer stock theater company. She told the Lancaster Sunday News she wouldn’t need the plane—*‘I think I could fly there on my own.” Deborah said she likes to perform; she sang ‘‘Tomor- row’ dressed as Little Orphan Annie in the talent portion of the Pageant. Other contestants were: Janet Adrian, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Brown, 48 E. Front Street, Marietta; Diane Hess, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hess, Mount Joy R.D.1; and Linda Pennell, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pennell, 4098 Forrest Road, Mount Joy R.D.3. GAS A survey by the Susque- hanna Times last Saturday afternoon found two gas stations operating in the Marietta area, and none in Mount Joy. In Marietta Herr’s Fruit Market was selling regular gas which they had received the previous day, but no premium or unleaded. They expected the regular gas to run out Sunday and did not know when they would be receiving any more. Carruther’s in Marietta, which does not usually sell much gas had a small line formed on Market Street. Reeves on Route 441 near Route 23 had gas but was not selling Saturday after- iw FIFTEEN CENTS noon. They were out of unleaded but expected to be selling this week during the mornings, while it lasted. Erv Lichty’s BP gas ran out early Friday morning. Lichty was reported as saying he did not know when he would be getting more. Miller's Mobil ran out of unleaded on Saturday. This past Monday they were expecting 1600 gals. of regular. Bradley's ARCO across fron Herr’'s Fruit Market was closed Saturday. The Times was unable to get a report irom Bradley on plans for this week. [continued on page 6] A sign of the times School Board holds taxes at 106 mills Donegal School Board approved a $4.8 million budget last Thursday that will keep taxes for residents at 106 mills. A five cent increase in the price of school lunches was approved, making the price for elementary school pupils S50 cents, high school students SS cents, and adults 90 cents. Woodrow Sites was ap- pointed Assistant Superin- tendant for business affairs; John Zimmerman principal of Riverview Elementary; John Sauter principal of Maytown Elementary while continuing as Director of Elementary Education; and James Lawrence as part- time principal at Grandview and also Seiler elementary schools. The following teachers were hired: John L. Felix, Jr., high school social studies; Deborah L.
