The fifty-year-old lily plant Mr. and Mrs. Ray Burris, R.D.1, Marietta, have a most unusual plant, a lily, which has been in Ray’s possession for fifty years, in the same pot of dirt, which blossoms every winter. This year the lily put out its first petals on January 28. Buds began to form in the fall. But there were some anxious moments in the Burris household before those buds appeared. Last summer, for the first time, Mrs. Burris cut the plant back to the dirt, while Burris’ lily plant blooms for 50th straight year! it was outside. Ray, especi- ally, was worried about whether the lily would come up again, but it did, and the flowers are lovelier than ever. The plant was first given to Ray almost fifty years ago by Mr. and Mrs. Al Zinn. Ray doesn’t know for how many years it was blossom- ing before that. But every year this plant bursts into bloom and brightens the Burris’ house. “We're like two kids over it,"’ says Mrs. Burris. Guard of the Month Mike Sarbaugh is Seiler School’s Guard of the Month for January. He is in Mr. Miller’s Sth-6th grade class.
