Little that was definite came out of the meeting. However, Mr. Walker promised to help Marietta, and said that his people might be able to speed things up if the town decides to apply for an expanded historic district or Pennsylvania Inventory listing as protection from the ““S0%’’ rule of the new floodplain regulations. Vandalism A rash of vandalism seems to have broken out in the district. Several months ago, Mr. Hallgren noted that two windows had been broken at the high school, and comment- ed on the rarity of vandalism here. Since then, however, broken windows have become more com- mon. Two more were smashed in the high school shop in the last month. In addition, more than (cont.) $1000 worth of equipment was taken from the Beahm science room. $165 worth of mercury was spilled, and the burglars also took weights and precision scales, presumably for use in weighing drugs. They also broke into the nurse’s office, apparently looking for something to get high on. $9.00 in cash was also taken. Mr. Hallgren speculated that the burglars were familiar with the building.
