He was the hus- band of Doris B. Bartles White. A lifelong resident of the Marietta area, he was vice president and sales mana- ger of Hamilton Equipment CHRISTIAN R. SHERK Christian R. ‘‘Peep’’ Sherk, 69, of 201 So. Barbara Street, Mount Joy, died at Lancaster General Hospital after a three month illness. Born in Rapho Township, he was a son of the late Christian R. and Lizzie Geibe Sherk. He was the husband of Martha Ream Sherk. He was last employed by the Hess-Ulrich Garage in Mount Joy as a mechanic. He was a member of the Chiques United Methodist Church and the Friendship Fire Company. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Judy, wife of Daniel Bowser, Houston, Texas. Also surviving are: a granddaughter, and three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Blanche Miller, Mount Joy; Ella, the wife of Carl Freed, York; Jacob, Mount Joy; Florence, the wife of Charles Metzger, Mount Joy; and Lewis, Columbia. MRS. HARRY FUHRMAN Cora B. Fuhrman, 73, of Garden Court Apartments, So. Marshall Street, Lan- caster, and formerly of Marietta, died last week at her home. She was the widow of the late Harry H. Fuhrman, who died in 1968. Born in East Donegal Township, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Meister Swarmer. She was a life-long member of the Donegal area. She formerly worked at the A. Werman Shoe Company of Marietta. Mrs. Fuhrman was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church of Marietta and the Lancaster Senior Citizens Club. She is survived by one daughter, Jean B., the wife of Samuel T. Pelen of Columbia; three grand- children; two sisters, Mrs. William Shuman of Mari- etta and Mrs. Elva Martin of Columbia; and one J. RAYMOND HILT J. Raymond Hilt, 72, of 34 Detweiler Ave., Mount Joy, died Saturday at the Lancaster General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Verna Herr Hilt, with whom he celebrated a SS5th wedding anniversary on Sept. 1. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Mamie Tyson Hilt, and lived all his life in the Mount Joy area. He retired in 1973 from Frey & Son Lumber Co., brother, Earl Swarmer of Florida. Lancaster, after 24 years with the company. He was a member of the Mount Joy Church of God and an honorary life mem- ber of Friendship Fire Co., No. 1, Mount Joy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Arlene, wife of Melvin G. Heisey, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Helen A., wife of Myron Weber, Mount Joy. He was a lifelong mem- ber of English United Presbyterian Church, Mari- etta, where he served as a deacon, elder and board of trustees. At the age of 14, when he was a choir boy, White wrote the lyrics for the religious song, ‘I Walked Into The Garden,”” on a blank page of a hymnal during a Sunday morning worship service. The lyrics were later discovered by the church organist, Mar- ion Weaver, who put the words to music. The song has been recorded a num- ber of times and was popular in England as well as the United States. He also was a member of American Society of Com- posers and Publishers, East Donegal Township Plan- ning Commission, and Don- egal Post 809, American Legion, Maytown. White served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Jane G. Gomph White, Mt. Hope Dunkard Brethren Church Home, Manheim R3, and the late Norman R. White. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a son, Dale C. II, at home, and a brother, Norman H., New Orleans.
