November 15, 1978 Riverview kids elect cookie Cookie Monster says, ‘Vote for the best cookie.” These words were on the sign at Seiler’s Kindergar- ten election on Tuesday, November 7th. A voting booth was set up, using a screen borrowed from the school nurse. Inside the booth was a small table where three different boxes of cookies were placed— oreo, chocolate chip and sugar. When the voting was completed, the ballots were counted by their teacher, Mrs. LaVon Harnish, and "the cookie with the most votes was served as a snack. Incidentally, the Oreo cookie was the winner. Viewer-voter show to be aired here The Nationally-syndicat- ed Phil Donahue Show will be shown over Warner Cable TV of Marietta on WPVI channel 6, and WLYH Lancaster-Lebanon on November 14th. The show will feature the use of Warner's innovative two- way QUBE system in Columbus, Ohio. The Donahue Show, one of America's most poplar TV programs, was taped recently in Warner's stu- dios in Columbus where Donahue was able to get instant viewer response to opinions on a variety of topics. The unique QUBE system makes it possible for viewers to participate in programs and register their opinions via a home QUBE terminal. Ron Amick, system man- ager for Warner Cable of Marietta, said the show, which is being seen in 155 cities across the United States. illustrates the unique capabilities of QUBE as a method of gaining instant feedback from the public. He added that QUBE has also been used recently as a public service to enable citizens of Upper Arlington, Ohio, to take part in a two-way town meeting and register their opinions on food labelling with the U.S. Food and Drug Admini- stration. Donahue’s fast-paced show was taped at QUBE’s studios with a live audi- ence. Home viewers responded instantaneously to Donahue’s inquiries on topics ranging from poli- tics, sports, presidential candidates to his own popularity.
