Auxilary will be making subs and steaks on Nov. 4th at 10 AM till. §§§ A pumpkin weighing 111 pounds, grown in Marietta from a seed that originated in Lancaster County, won a prize in competition with about 100 other pumpkins in national judging on Oct. 22nd. Dr. John RH. Brown, retired head of Wyeth, and his wife Kitty are the winners. The pumpkin was so large that the Browns could not get it into their car to take to the contest at the Washington River Farm on the Potomac. Dr. Brown hired a van for transport. He built a stretcher to carry it. The Brown entry won, on the basis of all three categories-size, color and conformation. Dr. Brown's secret of his success, ‘‘It’s very simple, the answer is Lancaster County soil. Lancaster County is the Garden Spot of the World.” Pvt. Everett W. Newell Jr., son of Everett W. Newell, 517 ‘Glenn Ave., Mount Joy, PA, recently was asigned as an aircraft maintenance specialist with the 15th Military Intelli- gence Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas.
