In a recent program evaluation Mr. James Holmes, Regional Reviewer for District III, ESEA Title I Programs, praised the three teachers for their exemplary parent programs and felt these programs were worthy of sharing with other school districts throughout the state. Mrs. Sarah Hess, read- ing specialist at Grandview, presented her program for parents called G.R.A.S.P. (Grandview’s Reading Ad- venture for Supportive Parents) twice during the four day conference. Her program has been active for several years. This year the group has been using a nine month program pub- lished by American Guid- ance Service called STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting). Mrs. Elizabeth Smedley and Mrs. Carol Lambert, reading specialists at River- view, also made their pre- sentation twice at the con- ference. All three teachers used slides of actual meet- ings and displayed mater- ials used. Donegal Street, Mount Joy, Pa., has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. During the nine-week training cycle, he learned the basics of battlefield survival, participated in a physical conditioning pro- gram, and gained proficien- cy in a variety of military skills. A 1977 graduate of «+ Poquea.Vally. Winery .on . . Ranegal High School, he joined the Marine Corps in December 1977. unit approach that involved many parents of children in their program. Many of the activities in their unit titled, ‘Trucking U.S.A.” have received recent news coverage. This program used student surroundings to motivate children with little interest in reading. Donegal should be very proud of the achievements of these three teachers in their field. MS volunteer workers needed The Multiple. East Donegal Supervisors meet * The East Donegal Super- visors adopted, on the recomendation of the town- ship Planning Commission, the Fire and Panic regula- tions of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. Approval was unanimous. The township will employ a person, on an hourly basis, to inspect construc- tion sites and check for violations.
