The service will take place on Friday, March 3rd, at 8 PM. Mrs. Arthur Schirmer will be the speaker; Rev. Schirmer will direct a children’s service held simultaneously. (Nurs- ery will be available.) Local women, members of various churches, will participate in the service. They are: Mrs. Dorothea Red, St. John’s Episcopal; Mrs. Mary Hoffines of the U.C.C.; Mrs. Charlotte Howell, English United Presbyterian; Miss Laura- lee Baker, Zion Lutheran; Mrs. Frances Makle,Bethel A.M.E.; Miss Naomi Myers, and Miss Vickie Lilly, both of United Methodist. The first World Day of Prayer was held more than 90 years ago, and the first offering was taken in 1920. World Day of Prayer offerings support the Lenten service at Florin Jacob F. Replogle will deliver the message ‘‘What Manner of Man is This?”’ at the Florin Church of the Brethren, Mount Joy, Sun- day, March §, at 7:30 p.m. The service is the fourth in a series of Sunday Evening Lenten Services cospon- sored by the Florin Church of the Brethren and Glossbrenner United Me- thodist Church. The senior choir of the Florin Church will provide special music. Jacob Replogle has held a number of pastorates in- cluding the Florin Church from 1968-1976, from which he retired. Church Women United Intercontinental Mission Program, which makes grants to Christian colleges for women in Asia, migrant missionaries, prison pro- grams, community develop- ment, ministry to the aging, and Native Ameri- cans. World Day of Prayer will be celebrated in 140 countries on March 3rd. Each year the women from one country write the service which will be used around the world. This year Canadian women wrote it. At present, Mr. Replogle is employed by Bridge- water College in Bridge- water, Virginia as curator of the college’s Pritchett Museum. The public is cordially invited to attend this service. Kings top Celtics in volleyball playoff The Chiques AAA bas- ketball league ended its season with a special playoff game between the Kings and the Celtics. The Kings squeeked through, 68-67, to win the champion- ship. The Kings team consists of Ken Bohs, Jack Dettinger, Willis Herr, Dale Hilsher, Mark Kelly, and Richard Courtney. League playoffs are now under way. The final standings are: Kings, won 9, lost 4; Celtics 8, 5; U.S. Local $149, 6, 6; Bombers, 2, 10. In the co-ed volleyball league, the champs were the Big L team. They got off to a shaky start in the season but came on strong later, to win ten of their last eleven matches.
