Twenty-one members and two visitors were present. Kathryn Heisey, president of the Society, presided over the meeting. Margaret Heisey was in charge of the devotions and read from I Cor. 13. This time was followed by quiet moments of reverance and remembrance of two mem- bers who departed this life the same day recently. Mrs. Belle Garber, age 84, and Miss Anna Mae Eby, age 72, will be missed greatly. Expressions of thanks for sympathy contri- butions were sent to the Society by Peggy Brown. Anna Wolgemuth express- ed appreciation for a Christmas dish garden given to her. Secretary Mary Grace Martin read the minutes of activities of several months and Roll Call was answered by the ladies mentioning what they wish to accomp- lish in the year ahead. Vera Frey and Anna Mae Derr gave motions of acceptance for the Audi- tor’s Report in charge of Grace Bixler and Gladys Ney. Hettie Ginder and Vera Frey on the Sunshine Com- mittee remembered Mary Shaefer, Anna Risser and Viola Greider who is recuperating at home after being in the hospital. Members of Society #8 will be entertained by Society #19 in the Landis- ville Church of God on March 11 at 12 o'clock noon. Two hundred forty-nine delegates attended; seventy two from Lancaster County. The special feature of the afternoon was a slide pre- sentation of scenes in central Europe by George Endslow. Picturesque scenes of the Swiss Alps including snowcovered, beautiful valleys with homes, farms, flowers on hillsides were shown. The glaciers were of special interest also. Hostesses Ruth Musser, Esther Musser, Mary Grace Martin, Phyllis End- slow, and Viola Greider provided the tasty refresh- ments. The seasonal red and white theme was used making an attractive set- ting for the social time. The next meeting will be held at Reich's Church, Marietta RD, March 18th at 2 PM. Nancy Hinkle will be the speaker. Leisure Club sees historical slides The Mount Joy Area Leisure Club met recently at Hostetters with 104 members and guests pre- sent. The meeting was called to order by President Shaeffer. Following the invocation by Mr. Frank Gingrich, cake and coffee was served. The program was pre- sented by Mr. John Aungst, Administrator of the Lancaster Area Histori- cal Society. The slides took us to Lancaster city showing buildings and streets as they are today and then slides showing the same scenes over a century ago. It was a very delightful and entertaining program. Following the program, President Shaeffer called the business meeting to order with the pledge of ~to-the-flag—Fhe minutes of the January meeting were read by Anna Zerphey. In spite of the snow storm only 4€ attended the January meeting and there was no formal business meeting. Almeda Hostetter present- ed the treasurer’ report. Elizabeth Hassinger of the Sunshine Committee re- ported on cards sent to shut-ins in December and Lena Eshleman reported on cards sent in January. The birthday and anni- versary songs were sung for those celebrating in January and February. New members introduced were Paul Good, Daisy Darrenkamp, Martin Hei- sey, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mateer. Mr. Harold Lauver was introduced as a guest. Under new business the officers for 1978 were installed by Mr. Arthur Braun. These officers are President Joe Shaeffer, First V. Pres. Marlin Kaylor, Second V. Pres. Eva Groff, Secretary Teresa Heisey, Asst. Secretary Nedra Brandt, Treasurer Almeda Hostetter, Asst. Treasurer John Brown, Recording Sec. Romaine Good and Asst. Recording Sec. Clinton Eby. President Shaeffer an- nounced programs for the next several months. The March 13 meeting, the program will be presented by Rev. Kettering and his wife. The meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. April 10, Rythm Singers from D.H.S.. May 8 there will be an auction and members were asked to bring an unwrapped article for the auction. Mr. Harold Keller will be the auctioneer. June 12. the Elizabethtown Kit- chen Band and on July 10, Congressman Robert Wal- ker will be the guest speaker.
