Wittel, 84, of 926 Wood St., Mount Joy, died last Sunday at the Lebanon Veterans Adminis- tration Hospital. Born in Mount Joy, Wittel was a resident of the Florin-Mount Joy area all his life. He was a son of the late Henry and Anna { Baker Wittel. Wittel’s sister, Mrs. Anna Grimm, died only hours after after he did, at the Masonic homes in Eliz- abethtown. Wittel served in France during World War I. He was a member of the Glossbrenner United Meth- osdist Church, American Legion Post 329, Elizabeth- | town, the International Order of Odd Fellows 1050, Lititz, and the Mount Joy Friendship Fire Co. In addition to his widow, Mary Durr Wittel, he is survived by four children: Mrs. Mary Smith, Mechanicsburg; John H., Columbia; James R., Mount Joy; and Nancy, wife of Kenneth Gruber, Mount Joy. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; five great -grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Emma Kiehl, Lancaster; Edna W. Wittel, Los Angeles, CA; Harry, Elizabethtown; and Mrs. Clara Will, Mount Joy. MELVIN RYDER Melvin Ryder, S8, of 701 W. Main St., Mount Joy, died at 10:15 AM Sunday. He was stricken while at services in the Glossbren- ner Church. Born in Florin, he was a son of the late Oscar D. © and Laura Nauman Ryder. He was the husband of Nancy Jane Wert Ryder. Ryder was a member of the Glossbrenner Church and its bowling team, the Florin Fire Co., the Friend- ship Fire Co., and the Train Collector’s Assoc. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He owned the Gen- eral Appliance Service, 249 W. King St., Lancaster. He is survived by his widow and two sons: Bruce L., University of Syracuse, NY; and Richard J., Mount Joy RDI.
