The activities opened with a very. de- lightful and entertaining program presented by the Rhythm Singers of Donegal High School under the direction of Mrs. Lau. Following the program the group received a standing Rythmn Singers entertain Leisure Club ovation for their fine pro- gram. Following the program, the invocation was given by Arthur Braun and coffee and cake was served. Fol- lowing refreshments, Pres- ident Shaeffer opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The secretarys’ report was pre- sented by Anna Zerphey and the treasurers report by Alemda Hostetter. Lena Eshleman of the Sunshine Committee reported nine cards sent to shut-ins. Five new members were presented, Ruth Brandt, Harold and Jane Eshleman and Elias and Kathryn Landvater. Visitors were Rose Halbleib, Maggie Way, Kathryn Neal, and Ruth Heck. The May meet- ing will begin at 12 noon and will be an auction. Members were asked to bring an unwrapped article for the auction, an article worth selling. Dean Shope, owner- manager of Shope’s Penn Dutch Tours, Inc., was selected to be the guest speaker at the 1977 Hospi- tality Industry Seminar and Council on Tourism. Mr. Shope was selected to speak with regard to pack- age tours and their rela- tionship to the travel in- dustry. In the speech, Mr. Shope sited ‘‘Fear of the unknown’’, ‘‘lack of confi- dence in the travel in- dustry’’, and ‘‘parochal- ism’’, as the deterring fac- tors of travel. In addition, the relation- ship of the retail travel agent, the tour broker or operator, and the future of travel were also discussed during his presentation. Mount Joy planning agenda The proposed agenda for the Mount Joy Borough Planning Commission meeting to be held on Thursday, April 28, 1977, it 7:30 p.m., -in the Borough Offices Building, 21 East Main Street, Mount Joy, is as follows: 1. Review and discuss the preliminary subdivision plan of Jones & Zink, Inc., for the Pennsbury Manor development located just west of South Market Avenue between Wood Street and Donegal Springs Road. 2. Review and discuss the final plan for Penn Court which is located along the south side of Route 230 East. Welcome Wagon news The last official meeting of the 1976-77 year of the Mount Joy Welcome Wa- gon Club was held April 20 at the American Legion. The guest speaker was Ron Mellaby, who presented a program on ‘‘Memory and Systems.”’ Results of the Used Book Sale were announced. The sale netted over $230, which will go to the benefit of the Mount Joy Library. Plans for the float at the Memorial Day parade and stand at the carnival were brought up. A family picnic is being planned for Sunday, FA June 26th, contact Sharon Roberts for more details. Elections for the 1977-78 year were held. Dianne Hummel was elected as President; 1st Vice-Presi- dent will be Janice Shelly; 2nd Vice-President-Joanne Maxfield, Secretary - Sue Longobardi, and Treasurer will be Debby Mikus. Installation of the new officers will be held at the dinner on May 11th. The Welcome Wagon Hostesses for the Mount Joy area are Pat Burton 653-1963 and Cheri Dillow 653-1609.
