Joy with Hoxie Bros. circus Alberto Zoppe, a fifth generation circus perfor- mer, and an all-around animal trainer, will be coming to Mount Joy on Thursday, September 30 with Hoxie’s Great Ameri- can Circus. Alberto Zoppe has been featured with all the top circuses of the world and appeared in such movies as “The Greatest Show on Earth,” Walt Disney's “Toby Tyler,” and “Thoroughly Modern Mil- lie’’ with Julie Andrews. His family founded one of the first circuses in Italy in 1842. Alberto came to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey from Italy in 1948 and for the next five years was a center-ring attraction there. This year the Zoppe family is appearing with Hoxie’s Great American Circus. Twelve-year-old daughter Carla is already a graceful ballerina on the back of a galloping horse; nine-year-old Giovanni is a clown in the riding act; and Sandy and little Tosca appear in one of America’s greatest dog acts. Father Alberto has re- cently taken up lion train- ing. He puts his head in the mouth of a lion, and even has a lion riding on a horse in the open circus ring. Kongo, the largest goril- la on tour, is another exciting attraction with Ho- xie’s Great American Cir- cus.
