Page 2 - SUSQUEHANNA TIMES New residents from California greeted Last week, the mayor of Mount Joy and a reporter were on hand when Wel- come Wagon ladies Bar- bara Banks and Cherie Dillow greeted two new re- sidents of Mount Joy. Mildred Gramm Lawton and Rev. Geneva Lasley moved all the way from California to a Springfield Gardens apartment in Mount Joy. Mrs. Lawton grew up in Marietta with her grand- parents, Justice and Mrs. Samuel B. Gramm. She left this area for Princeton, New Jersey, in 1934, and graduated from high school and college in that state. Since then, she and her family have lived in Phila- delphia and California. Mrs. Lawton is a widow. Her son still lives in Cali- fornia, where he works as an electronics engineer and technician. Mrs. Lawton visited here in October 1975 and de- cided to ‘‘move back to home territory.”” The big- gest changes she has noticed are the growth of new houses and industries in Mount Joy and the re- storation of Marietta. Mrs. Lawton’s friend Geneva Lasley is a minister in the United Church of Religious Science. She de- cided to accompany Mrs. Lawton to her new home in Mount Joy instead of accepting a pastorate in Oklahoma. Rev. Lasley plans to investigate the possibility of starting a ministry in Mount Joy. Rev. Lasley was born in Atlanta, GA, went to col- lege in Oklahoma, and studied for the ministry in Seattle and Los Angeles. ‘““This is the most beauti- ful country I've ever seen,” she says.
